PicklesWithJam Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 (edited) https://imgur.com/a/194Y6F3 The candles and the background of the tombs in the inset barrows within Draugr dungeons are missing textures. I don't know what, and they persist after verifying files. So a mod must be trying to replace them, but not having something to replace them with. Is there any mod that would retexture these assets that I could install to overlay these to give them a texture? Or is that a dumb idea? Edited August 20, 2022 by PicklesWithJam
traison Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 You're going about this the wrong way. You need to find the mod that replaces the meshes, open the nif file in nifskope and find what texture file name its referencing. If you're lucky it was a typo by the original mod author and you can simply rename/copy a texture file to fix it. Does SMIM for instance touch those meshes? Don't know. Might be a place to start though. If you don't know what mesh that is, load the cell in the CK and trace it down from there: CK -> Cell -> Static -> Mesh (nif) -> NifSkope -> BSShaderTextureSet -> Texture (dds)
PicklesWithJam Posted August 20, 2022 Author Posted August 20, 2022 (edited) That's telling someone to drive a manual car when they've only ever ridden passenger in the first place. Not to mention, drive that manual somewhere they've never been without a map, just basic directions on what to look for. Seems much simpler to just install texture replacements for the offending textures and overwrite? Edited August 20, 2022 by PicklesWithJam
traison Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 (edited) If you have a mod that changes the texture referenced in the nif, how will you know which texture replacer will contain the file you need? Edit: So how about this, tell me what cell those pictures were taken in. What was the name of the dungeon? I'll try to find the nif for you and we go from there. Edit again: Nevermind, found it. traison Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 So if I'm looking at the correct static object here (just guessing based on your pictures), the nif you're having issues with could be: Dungeons\Nordic\Temple\BgHalls\NorTmpHallBgColumn01.nif Do you have any mods that change that file? If you do, and you wish to know which textures it uses, upload that file here and I'll take a look at it with NifSkope.
PicklesWithJam Posted August 21, 2022 Author Posted August 21, 2022 (edited) I don't even know how I'm supposed to know that beyond specifically knowing that a mod was supposed to do that, but I have not installed any (deliberate) retexture mods neither have I installed any mods that were meant to alter dungeons. Is there supposed to be a way to search active plugins for a reference like that? The most I can do is insert files into folders or click "Install with Vortex", drag some lines to tell a mod to load before or after another mod, or just recently, open SSEdit and click a file to clean when Loot tells me to. I have the basic sense to read Compatibility on mod pages, but that only stays in the brain space for so long before eventually in the future stumbling on a mod that may have been incompatible with something and not recognizing/remembering a mod I already have listed in the incompatibilities of that new mod, and then just hoping Loot warnings catch it for me if that happens. Which it often doesn't... Considering I'm currently dealing with broken doors in Morthal and Falkreath because something is going wrong with the "Great Cities of JS North" bundle, which I can't fix after trying for an afternoon of trying to find what's going wrong. (Only had JS and North originally, instead Great Cities because it had a patch to use all of them at once which I tried to see if that'd fix it). Might be alternate start related, I'll try deleting that for Realm of Lorkhan instead... (Edit: Fuck, that didn't do anything either, new game with Lorkhan instead of alt start and still the doors in Morthal are misplaced. Edit 2: It was due to the mod that alters the Helgi ghost quest... However, uninstalling that mod fixes every door in Morthal EXCEPT the Inn's door, which remains misplaced. Edit 3: Fucking SHIT, now I fucking CTD whenever I enter Morthal on completely new saves where I've uninstalled fuckin everything but JK Skyrim. Nothing is giving me any warning messages, just instant fuckin CTD the second it would load in after leaving Lorkhan via crystal or via COC to Morthal.) Anyway, yeah, I really don't know what would be messing with the nord temple bones stuff. I don't usually dl texture mods in the first place, other than body texture stuff. Was just hoping to be able to install replacement textures. Edited August 21, 2022 by PicklesWithJam
yorpers Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 (edited) https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/19365 you can try this mod, but I have no way of knowing if it will help. I would need the files like the above poster to see what is going on with your meshes. ? EDIT: (one of) The mesh in question actually looks like its a dirt texture that is the problem, probably a bad file path on that. Edited August 21, 2022 by yorpers
