Freeze/CTD when talking to/recruiting followers from Interesting NPCS (3dnpc)

I've been getting some very specific CTDs on a new playthrough. Pretty much everything else works as normal, including recruitment of vanilla followers/followers from other mods. Yet when I talk to some followers specifically from 3DNPCs (only followers not regular npcs), sometimes the game will freeze for a minute and then crash. This crash still happens even if I just exit the dialogue tree without recruiting them. Of the 3DNPC followers i've talked to, I've gotten this crash with both Zora Fair-Child and Larkspur, but not with Duraz. I am also using Nether's Follower Framework to manage followers, and it works perfectly fine with all other followers.

I also tried using console commands like "set 3dnpcfollowercount to 0" and "set playerfollowercount to 0", but neither worked. I'm at a loss as to why this bug is happening when I changed very little in my load order from my previous playthrough (besides just merging a few armor mods) which worked just fine with 3DNPCs.
