BlueIgloo Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 I just updated Origin and now when I launch Origin it wants to "repair my Sims 4 game". My game was working fine yesterday. My question...If I let Origin repair my game is it also going to update my game as well? I have purposely NOT updated my Sims 4 to the latest version because I'm not ready to have to update all my mods yet. I always play my Sims 4 in OFFLINE mode. If repairing the game forces a game update, I'm going to be massively unhappy.
BigSims4fan Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 Yes it will force the update.. just had the same happen an hour ago...now i am trying to fix all the crap that it broke
BlueIgloo Posted August 9, 2022 Author Posted August 9, 2022 I was afraid of that. God I hate EA. Forcing me to download updates to support changes that I don't won't or will never play ( High School, Werewolves, etc...) Once the update is done I'll have to see how much work it's going to be to fix everything. I'm not sure I have the motivation to spend hours fixing my games, my custom sims, my base save, etc.... I honestly don't know how the modders do it, fixing their broken mods constantly. Kudos to all of you...
Crazy Doll Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 (edited) Well... Why don't you disable games auto update in Origin settings? Mmmh? Then, you'll be able to update Origin, set it offline > run the game > set origin back online and play with a game that hasn't been updated. Edited August 9, 2022 by Crazy Doll

Since this update the Origin client automatically attempts to repair the sims and install the new update. I tell it to cancel, f off, etc and I can't play my old version of the game even in offline mode.
shorty943 Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 Extra tip.... Never Ever play this game online. Also check your Firewall, EA have given themselves permission to go into your PC any damned time they want, at every update or game repair, remove those FOUR files that allow EA free access into your life!!!! I use a set of completely empty Mods, saves and Tray folders especially for putting Origin online to head to the Gallery. Even the saved game in saves is totally bulldozed and has a single standard Maxis made sim Not in world, because that is needed to make the save work. The gallery runs faster, downloads are no longer glitchy, and when you have got what you want, close that empty game, put Origin back offline, and transfer all back to your real game folders and play again. 1
BlueIgloo Posted August 9, 2022 Author Posted August 9, 2022 Uhhh, yes Crazy Doll, as I stated in my original post, I NEVER play the game online and I have automatic game updates turned off. This latest update of Origin forced a repair (presumably because I have not updated my game ) and thereby forces the update.
BlueIgloo Posted August 9, 2022 Author Posted August 9, 2022 (edited) Well, I'm posting only in the event it helps someone else but all the prep work needs to be done up front. I was able to restore my game to my previous version. So I'm back in business. I already had a full backup of my entire Sims 4 game directory (old version). After the EA update, I did NOT run my game. I copied in the backed up Sims 4 Game directory but left the updated \__Installer and \Support directories. Launched the game in Offline mode and it runs the old version just fine. Edited August 9, 2022 by BlueIgloo 1

I'm so glad you suggested this. I don't want to update until they actually fix the large amount of bugs that shipped with this latest xpac. They've marked things as fixed and told the community the last hotfix made everything better but the bug reports about the aging bug and etc continue to pour in from pc and consoles. So basically business as usual at EA.

I'm prolly overheating with these 37°C. In any case what comes next still can help some. My Origin is setted to don't allow the auto update for >3 years now, and never it did update without asking me to allow it first. There are at least 2 settings to switch OFF. Orange arrow allows Origin to auto update games, If uncheck Origin will ask you to perform an update if game needs it but if you don't accept it won't do the update. Red Arrow is the origin auto update it concerns only Origns app updates, if you uncheck only this one, games will keep auto updating. Edited August 9, 2022 by Crazy Doll 2
