Constantly getting crashes with modded DOAXVV. Can anybody help me?

I'm using the Steam global version of DOAXVV. Everything works as intended without the 3Dfix. With the 3Dfix enabled my game will crash either instantly or within 5 minutes of runtime regardless of if I press F7 to engage 3D. The game will freeze for a second before returning to desktop without any error code. Reinstalling the game, changing my graphics settings and disabling all mods doesn't solve it either. Also does the 3Dfix include a crash log? Could this have anything to do with a recent update or my monitors resolution?

My Specs:

OS: Windows 10

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600

RAM: 16 GB

Display: 2560x1440 144hz

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060

Did you download the 3D from here?

and followed the instructions (example: choosing the left most options in game settings in launcher)

Yes, I downloaded from that link and am still getting crashes with max settings.

Maybe some particular mod is causing problems, not 3Dfix itself. Once, I don't remember exactly what, but I wrote the mod's .ini file in such a way that the game crashed for me right away. Even now, it can sometimes exit the game without warning, but that is when I start the next match too quickly.

You can also check the consistency of files in steam

I reinstalled the game (deleting everything in the game folder beforehand), then dragged the 3Dfix files into DOAXVV folder and configured the settings with the left most options. Within the first 5 minutes my game is still crashing with only the 3Dfix installed.

Also if you wouldn't mind sharing, what are the specs on your PC?

Currently I'm using the latest GeForce game ready driver.

It's hard to guess what could be wrong. maybe try some other d3dx file, or do file integrity check on steam?

Check your Windows logs to see what is causing the issue when the crash occurs. That will help with troubleshooting.

Don't know how to help you, maybe try file from my PC

DOAX-VenusVacation.zip 2.99 MB · 1 download

A loose thought, maybe something in windows is blocking 3dfix, some firewall, anti-virus?

Gave it a try, no luck unfortunately. Thank you for trying to help me.

Hopefully this helps. This is a compilation of crashes I've received from my Windows logs. Exception code: 0xc0000005 and Fault offset: 0x00000000019fecd7 occur in all of them.

Are you overclocking anything? RAM, CPU, GPU, etc.? I'd try downclocking if you are.

If you are running 2x8 sticks of RAM try one alone and try again. If it crashes, swap for the 2nd stick and try again.

In EVGA Precision X1 (GPU Overclocking software) I had a setting called Boost Lock Enabled. Disabling it seems to fix it, I only got one crash so far with it off but I think that only happened because I was downloading a game on steam. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

DOAXVV started to crash again

For some peculiar reason I've started to get crashes again. I have no idea why it just suddenly stopped working and why disabling Boost Lock fixed it temporarily, but this is what I have tried so far.

Troubleshooting:

  • I have enabled the left most settings in DOAXVV launcher.
  • I have verified files in steam.
  • I have removed all mods except 3Dfix.
  • I have latest drivers installed.
  • I have tried multiple d3dx.ini files.
  • I have used Yorom's game files.
  • I have used one RAM stick alone then used the other.
  • I have confirmed that none of the components in my PC are overclocked.
  • I have disabled my antivirus and firewall.
  • I have performed a hard PC reboot to clear my PC's memory cache.
  • I have ran System File Checker in Windows Command Prompt.
  • I have used Windows Memory Diagnostic.
  • I have disabled the LoadAppInit_DLLs registry entry in Registry Editor.

Google says that 0xc0000005 is an error where an app is trying to address a memory block it does not have permission to access. Is there anyway to enable the permissions for the game to run? Also, are any of the creators of the 3Dfix still active?

What is your power supply brand and model?

Do your other 3D games run well?

As Yorom suggested, I'd try running as administrator to see if that helps.

. Do some stress test if there's no problem on your rig first. (e.g. 3dmark)

. Try removing reshade if you've installed it. Just moving dll file (dxgi.dll) to another location will do.

. Change nvidia drivers to older version (e.g. 4xx.xx). Do a clean installation within advanced mode.

. Lower the base/boost clock a bit if your graphic card is factory-overclocked.

. Lower the resolution of the game. Crash tends to occur at high-load condition, mostly.

. Check if your power supply is properly sized. It may cause the problem, in theory.

I have no idea else.

I tried some tests on 3DMark, and the DirectX 12 ones also crash so maybe that indicates some sort of GPU problem. Also I used Display Driver Uninstaller then used an older driver, still no luck. 1980x1080 and window mode do not fix it either.

. Try to start the game with "run as administrator"

Right clicking the normal .exe and the launchers, opening Properties and going to the Compatibility tab and enabling Run this program as administrator didn't work unfortunately.

My PSU is a PowerSpec PS 650BSM. My other games run quite smoothly and I cant recall having any other problems like this before.

Crashing on DX12 tests is not a good sign. You may be drawing too much power off one rail. Try changing out one of the power lines going to your GPU to another plug (coming out of the power supply). This may balance out the load if that is the issue.

Trying a different plug didn't fix it, but I think you're right about too much power being used so I downclocked by 60 MHz instead of 30 and that seems to fix it for now.

Your graphic card must be broken, then.

Its definitely a possibility, I've had it for 3 years and overclocked so it makes sense that I'd have these problems.

Thank you guys for helping me! Hopefully I wont have to update this thread again lmao.
