Can someone explain me how to extract a .pak file ?

I tried with multiple extractor ( 7-Zip, Winzip, ALZip, Winrar and more ) but it either says that it's corrupted or not with the right format ( Winrar ) or that it cannot open it like an archive.

.pak files are, by design, drag and drop

you don't need to extract them for them to work, you just need to place them in your \Starbound\mods\ folder

 

if for whatever reason you absolutely have to extract a .pak (which i do not recommend for the end user) there are instructions on the wiki

1.      Open up Command Prompt

2.      Copy paste this next : "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\win32\asset_unpacker.exe" This is the path in starbound Steam game of the app which "unpak" the mods.

3.      Space in the command prompt, then drag your "pak" file onto the Command Prompt

4.      Space in the command prompt, create a new folder and also drag it after in the command prompt. This new folder will receive the contents of the "pak" file.

5.      Enter, the command prompt normally tells you that the content has been extracted and you can find it in the new folder you created.

Ps- don't forget spaces between file paths. To give you an idea, the command prompt will show you something like this before you click Enter:                                                                  C:\Users\YOU>"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\win32\asset_unpacker.exe" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\mods\starbound-sexbound-latest.pak" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\mods\test"

I just want to point out that the file paths will not necessarily be the same since they depend on where your files are located on your computer.
