Unable to equip "top" and panties at the same time on female followers after installing SoS. (SOLVED)

Since what appears to be right after I installed the full version of Schlongs of Skyrim, I can no longer equip a "top" (or main piece) of an armor set on my female followers at the same time as the panties or underwear.  In all cases, when I equip the top, it unequips the bottoms.  If I remove the top, the panties then re-equip.  I've looked just about everywhere in the MCM for something that might give me an idea as to what's happening.  It's not "pants", only panties.  Anyone else experienced this issue and have suggestions to offer?

Most likely, the bottom pieces are using slot 52. SoS will automatically unequip armors that occupy slot 52 when wearing an armor piece that uses the main body slot since the schlongs also use slot 52. You can fix this though by using the SoS MCM menu and checking the revealing checkbox in the Players/NPC options tab.

The above is correct; also when you install a new armour mod, check if there is a Slot 52 piece. If there is and the armour is a set you'd typically wear together (Slot 32 and 52) you can add SoS as a master to the armour ESP then directly add the SoS_Revealing keyword to the Slot 32 Chest Piece. This won't work retroactively though. That is to say, adding the SoS_Revealing keyword to an armour after SoS has already added it to the Nonrevealing list won't take it off there.

The revealing checkbox in MCM is one of the first things I tried to see if that would remedy the issue but it doesn't seem to make a difference.  I've always been aware that items use slots but never learned how to see which slot they use.  How do I see that?

You can also try to go into the MCM for SOS and I think the option is under the general tab of the MCM, but somewhere in the MCM is a option called clean shlongified armors or some thing like that. you can do this to try to "fix" the issue. I have had the same issue as you in the past when skirt and shirt were working on a follower until suddenly they would only wear one or the other and cleaning the schlongified armors fixed it until the outfit got buggy again and had to do it again but hope this helps you out.

SkyUI AIO Survival has elements you may not need, but it shows you the Body Slot(s) of every thing you might wear.  It's a godsend if you use a lot of different clothing/armor mods.

It also allows you to sort based on any column, like Slot Number.

In particular, I can add some clothing from a new mod, then try on a top - which is Slot 32 - and SoS will change the numbers displayed to "32,52" meaning that this piece will now fight with a Slot 52 item.

I then (curse and) go

MCM -> SoS -> Player/NPC Something -> Set As Revealing

and this one Slot 32 piece will no longer fight with Slot 52 pieces.

Tried this, but unfortunately SoS do not seem to save the change. ?

In general the shlongified armors are and remain at 0, and nothing happens when I try to do a clean.

Perhaps SoS for AE is not as converted as I hoped it would be. ?

After taking some time to tinker around with other mods and let this one sit for awhile to avoid further frustration, I am back.

Thank all of you for your feedback.  I have figured out that if I'm playing as a female and give them a schlong (which they cannot equip), I can equip the bra (body) for a given piece of "female only" armor and then set it as revealing.  After that, I can then equip the panties along with the top ON MY CHARACTER.  However, if I give that exact "revealing" piece to a female follower, she cannot wear them at the same time because she doesn't have a "virtual schlong".

I've even gone so far as to equip the lot 32 piece of the female armor on one of my male followers (with a schlong), and then try to make it revealing that way, but that didn't work either.  I don't get the option in the MCM menu for the NPC to do that.

I'm pretty sure I understand what you are saying here, however, what "mod utility" do I need to accomplish this.  I've also seen people make reference to being able to edit the .nif and two other files (ARMA and ARMO) for the slot 32 pieces of an armor set.    Is there a complete tutorial on exactly how to do this and what "software" is needed?

Software is NifSkope for the nif, and xEdit (SSEEdit, TESVEdit, ...). As for tutorials; not that I know of, but probably.

In xEdit you need to edit the BOD2 record of both ARMA and ARMO records.

In NifSkope you need to locate all NiTriShapes with a BSDismemberSkinInstance, and in (not under) that BSDismemberSkinInstance node find Partitions -> Partitions -> Body Part.

As far as I can tell all 3 lists need to have the same slots, otherwise weird stuff happens. I just (an hour ago) had an armor piece produce a ghost copy of the reference body despite having no such thing in NifSkope. Typically armor pieces just go invisible when the slots do not match.

Xedit, add sos as master to the armor and add keyword revealing to the armor.

Btw, changing slots in nif is easy to do in outfit studio.

Load the armor piece and one of the right upper tabs shows the slot.

Change it there.

traison,

Thank you for such a rapid response.  I understand some basics of Nifskope, but all I've really used it for is to be able to take quick looks at .dds texture changes that I make in paint by importing layers that I manipulate in Gimp.

The rest of your comments are pretty much "greek to me".    What are BOD2, ARMA, and ARMO records?  I am presuming they are found (embedded) in the specific armor mods .esp file that SSEEdit or TESVEdit will open up for editing?

I'm a complete beginner when it comes to this so any specifics you (or anyone else out there lurking around this post) are willing to provide are greatly appreciated.

TIam, my understanding is that once SoS recognizes the armor as "non-revealing" changing the master won't work?  I read that somewhere.

I'm considering just changing the pieces to a completely different armor slot but have no clue which one would be the best choice to use.

With that thought in mind, is there a link to a site showing all the available slots and what they are typically used for?

Also, which is better/newer/more user friendly, SSEEdit or TESVEdit?  Or is it pretty much just picking one and learning to use it?

Edit: Biped Objects, NifSkope I think has a better list though. More complete, but perhaps unofficial?

Thanks again traison.  I just downloaded SSEEdit and have it opened.

Based on what I've found thus far, it seems slots 44, 45, 47, and 49 are viable slots to reassign to the slot 52 pieces.  49 seems to be the best choice (as the other 3 are associated to bloody dragon parts?).  Before I pull the trigger on this and give it a try, anyone done this and ran in to problems?

Posted (edited)

I've swapped body parts on a lot of armors. Even the one in the screenshots is swapped. The only oddity I've found is that helmets use slot 130 in the nif, and 49 and 31 (or similar) in the esp.

Edit: Backup the nif and esp if you're not sure. Its not like this is going to set your computer on fire.

Edit: Protip, if you're editing multiple parts in xEdit, you can select up to 4 at the same time, change one, and drag-n-drop the change to the other 3. Saves ya 5 mins.

A couple more quick questions and then I think I'm ready to give this a shot.

I use Vortex.  So I will need to edit the .nifs in the staging folder and re-deploy, correct?

I'm pretty much set that most of these that I'm going to change will go to slot 49.  When I go to make the change in SSEEdit, is it going to give me options for the slot or do I have to KNOW EXACTLY WHAT TO TYPE.  Same question for NifSkope.

I'm taking a guess here.  If I'm using slot 49 in SSEEdit, the nomenclature for NifSkope will be "SBP_49_UNNAMED"

NEVERMIND, I just found the drop down arrow.  DUH!!!!

Here goes nothin'!

Double click the First Person Flags value and it gives you a drop-down. As for vortex, dunno, don't use it.

One .esp down and all associated nifs.  Who knows how many to go?   I was a bit intimidated at first, but it was really pretty easy.  TEDIOUS, yes.  But difficult, not so much.

THANK YOU AGAIN.

If you use the function revealing in SOS MCM, it's saved in your save file and can get lost

Adding a keyword to the armor is attached a property to the armor and will be never lost.

As I investigate this further, it seems that (maybe) slot 46 (chest) is a more "suitable" choice than 49?  I realize it's probably not a big deal either way.  I guess I'm just wondering what choice most of the rest of you would make in this situation?  Thoughts on this anyone?

I go by slot names in NifSkope. But typically the slot swaps I do comes down to making sure cubic hairs work where I want them to, and more recently I moved stuff around for better compatibility with cbpc physics. If in doubt, look at something like TAWOBA and use that as a template. That's a mod that has pretty much every armor bit imaginable, and I didn't have to swap anything around there to make things work the way I wanted them to.

Edit: Looking at those mods again, I see that TAWOBA uses slot 52 for underwear and cubic is on 49. I guess what the takeaway here is is that it doesn't matter what slot you pick, it will always conflict with something else and there is no standard.
