my games keeps crashing in the cit ruins area everytime I go there. I have buffot 4 intsalled and it says CreateTexture2DWarning.cpp(60): [critical] A call to ID3D11Device::CreateTexture2D failed with error code 0x80070057. This will crash the game.

Hi there,

The message you are getting can occasionally be a false alarm from what I have read in the past, but in your case if it is followed by the crash it sounds like you may have some things to take a look at.  Since the crash seems to occur in the same place (assumingcrash-2022-04-24-23-42-08-AUTOSCAN.txt it's just the CIT ruins) then we have to consider what mods you are using that change that particular area.  For example, do you have mods that change things in "the institute"?  Or in a particular area nearby?  Mostly the error points to a bad texture file.  So it could be a mod that simply changes textures, and there happens to be one nearby and that texture is corrupt.

Here is an autoscan of your crash log (see above, because for some reason the forum stuck it up there). You can scan them yourself if you install the latest version of Python for Windows and use this Python script (Crash Log Auto-Scanner on Nexus).  Ypu'd just need to drop your crash log in the same folder as the script and run it.  Buffout does have some suggestions for you here.  You are using some mods that have been found to cause problems.  You can check out this documentation for more info, it is the same link found in the autoscan file.

One mod that it flags is Boston FPS Fix.  While this mod is a little bit outdated, the author of Previsibines Repair Pack recently put out a version of the plugin which backports some fixes and if you want to continue using Boston FPS Fix you may want to try it.  It is what I'm currently using.  https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/59021

There are some other things flagged that you may find additional info for in the documentation link above.  It might be a good idea to research the mods listed to see if you want to continue trying to use them.  Some may only be a problem within specific parameters.

As for the texture files, if you know which mods change textures, particularly in that area, you can try and do some testing.  My favorite method for this is to use SKK Fast Start New Game & Fast Start Location in order to pop from the mirror sequence directly above Vault 111.  From there you can either COC near the place you want to test, or use New Location to get there.

Here's the method I'd use to test if it's a texture mod:

First do a test with everything you currently have, and just add SKK Fast Start and make a save when you get to the top of the vault.  use the following console command

coc C.I.T.ruinsext

See if you get the same crash bug.  If that doesn't crash it, try going back to your save and maybe try

coc GreenetechGeneticsext

and then run to the C.I.T. ruins to the west and see if it takes traversing the zone line to make it crash

Once you get a good test bed, i.e. you can make it crash consistently by either going directly there or traversing the area to it, here's the next step

1. disable all your texture "replacers"

2. start a new game with SKK Fast Start

3. Use the method you've identified that gets you there fast and see if your crash

4. If you don't crash, it's likely to be one of the mods you disabled

5. Enable 2 or 3 at a time, each time a new game, and see if you can reproduce the crash.  Keep track of which ones you are enabling with screen shots or write it down

6. Once you can reproduce the crash again, it's likely the mod that has the issue was in the last group you enabled.  Go back and disable those 1 at a time and test each time.  That'll tell you which mod has the problem.

If by some chance all your texture replacers check out, you can use the same method for your other mods.
