So does anybody here actually look at Steam Greenlight?

Recommended Posts

As always, I think there is more to the story than meets the eye.  Doubtless there was some behind the scenes stuff that caused the rejection.  Or worst case, it could have been a simple misunderstanding.  Steam\Valve is at the end of the day a profit driven company and if someone can convince them there is a market for a particular game, then you can damn sure bet they are going to carry it.

Hell, just look at all the controversy surrounding the Postal games.....and yet....you can buy them on steam.  ;)

The one greenlite deal that STILL pisses me off is this bullshit: http://store.steampowered.com/app/233250/?snr=1_7_15__13

$89 fucking dollars for an ALPHA?????  What the Unholy Bastard Fuck is this???????  It makes fuck all difference that you get the beta and final deluxe game versions.  You are doing their quality control testing and PAY for the privilege?

I am sure I will love the game and I am also sure I won't be buying the damn thing for more than 40 to 45 bucks!

I saw that, I don't like paying £40 for a game and they expect me to pay £68? Fuck that. It doesn't even look all that good imo.

Who in their right fucking mind would pay almost 90 bucks for a goddamned game, Kickstarter or not? It had better fucking come with a free blow job from a Japanese girl and a pizza with bacon, sausage and pepperoni on it.

Someone I know paid £150 ($200) for the Cosmic Digital Edition.

The one being sold on Steam is the Galactic Edition. Only the Galactic and Cosmic Editions come with earlier access. it should also be noted all edition are digital only.

It doesn't include the girl or blowjob either.

Kickstarter stats

44,162 backers
$2,229,344 pledged of $900,000 goal

The game cost that much at the moment because during the kickstater campain the backer had to pay 89$ to gain Alpha access would be unfair for the backers to lower now the price. So for now the 89$ are ok, it will certainly drop on relase date maybe when they go into Beta. It is a bit of sad that the game gets so much negativ publicity for the 89$.

It is simply a way for the intrested who missed the kickstarter to buy them self in.

Then leave it off of greenlight\steam and keep it on kickstarter until the game is ready to freaking sell.  Greenlight is for indie games that need exposure to get interest and generate money.  Planetary Annihilation is fucking fully funded.  It doesn't need exposure or money.  Putting it on steam for that price is just asking for people to scream What The Fuck!!!!!!!!

Yes, I am a HUGE fan of Total Annihilation (and still play it to this day), of which this is supposed to be the spiritual successor and NO, I think this is nothing less than a DICK MOVE that they should take a HUGE amount of shit over.  For Fuck's sake, $89 dollars is almost TWICE what major games release at.  How could they NOT think there would be backlash????

It is a pure and simple, greedy ass, cash grab, the likes of which you would expect from a company like EA.  Who knows, maybe EA owns half of them......... :s

Well via kickstarter they can't get any money after the campain is over. For me it is ok if they try to get additional money this way, I think some people are more willing to fund them when they get something that they can "thouch" instead of seeing some trailer videos, screenshots and concept arts. And I'm quite sure that the additional money will be used to improve the game somehow.

But it is a big flaw in all this kickstarter campains that none of them included an estimating for their development. So we don't know is the amount of money they originaly pledge for enough to fund the whole development or it is unrealistic low. I can imagen that even with 2 mio $ they may run low befor they are finished, with a team of 11 people in the USA.

Put comparing them with EA is a bit to far. Look at Chris Robert and his Star Citizen he got additional 3 mio $ after the kickstarter ended by simply keeping the most option to give him money he head during the kickstart campain, he even created new ones. I would still not call him greedy.

And you have to consider you don't have to buy the game now. You will have no disadvantage when you wait untill the release. According to the kicksaterpage the beta access will cost 40$ and for the full game they charged only 20$ during the kickstart campain..so I wouldn't call that greedy or unfair.

It is the principle of the thing.  Putting an $89 price tag on a game on steam just LOOKS like a greedy EA move.  There was no reason at all to put it on steam and certainly not for that ridiculous price.  For most folks who don't even know what kickstarter is, what do you think their initial impression is?  Based on the screenshots the graphics of Total Annihilation are better looking so you aren't wowing anyone.  This is a textbook case of how NOT to advertise and how TO make a bad first impression on folks IMHO.

Now clearly they had zero problems getting funding via kickstarter so this just smacks of a cash grab.  There are no additional features being offered (the chart for kickstarter was maxed out already) so how else can one interpret it?

The guys may have the best of intentions, but it is their actions and ONLY their actions that we can judge them buy.  Their actions do indeed place them right smack dab in the camp of EA.  That they or anyone else would be surprised by the WTF reaction to the $89 price tag just shows they are out of touch with the gamers they CLAIM they really can relate to.  As I said before, you won't find a bigger TA fan than me.  I have 3 installs of the game with 3 different overhauls and play all three.  This move by them just made up my mind to wait until the game falls $20 or less before I buy it.

Go to early access and check the top sellers .

That doesn't tell you how many units have been sold and it doesn't really have any competition if you look at the offerings, other than Arma 3 and it hasn't beat it.  Heck it hasn't even beat out "prison architect" so what does that tell you?

Also that brings up a very good point.....the 1 one selling early access game is Arma 3.....at HALF the price they want for PA.  PA isn't even going to be close to the same level of eye candy and polish that Arma 3 will be.

Enough about PA, here is one that the dev's had to be drunk (or stoned) when they thought of the name: http://store.steampowered.com/app/209060/

And being drunk is good!  :P

Can you see junior noticing the game on steam and asking dear old dad...."hey dad, there is this cool looking game....but what does Pornography mean?????"

I see we won't come to agreement on the PA matter :D

Now I'm curious how did you enlighten junior?
