Skyrim LE - Looking for graphic recommendations

This is a partial repost from my earlier topic:

I’ve decided on LE, since some mods which are important to me don’t work on SE. However, I would like to have it look pretty. I’d choose stability & smoothness over beauty, but I think my PC is powerful enough to run some decent graphic mods. (See my DXdiag below, please.)

Are there specific ENBs which you would recommend? I prefer realism and easy-of-use and installation over hyper-stylised graphics. It’s very hard to judge ENBs by screenshots alone. My experience in the past has been “Hhmm, now everything looks the same, but just darker…”

Regarding textures: should I download the High Res Texture pack and the Unofficial Texture Patch, or skip it and install a 2k or 4k texture pack? Any specific suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Greetings,

seeing as we have the same graphics card (the elusive GTX 1070) I feel entitled to drop my two cents :) :

-) First of all, yes, I daresay your PC can handle a decent ENB. Depends on your resolution and refresh rate, of course. I run Skyrim at 60fps and 1080p very smoothly. Your CPU should also more than suffice, as I am running an AMD Ryzen 5 1600X, which, I think, is less powerful than an i7

-) In my experience, your choice of ENB greatly depends on the weather mod you are using. For instance, I run RealVision ENB (rather old, I believe, but I like it and it runs fine, so yeah) and for a long time have been using Pure Weathers (again, old) alongside it. It was fine, but one day I switched to Climates of Tamriel and it made a big difference in overall quality. Tho, I think many ENBs support most weather mods anyways, you just need to take the right option.

As for ease of use I find ENBs mostly do a good job of describing the installation process. Some ENBs however, in my experience, do need some tweaking to your specific setup, which might not be quite so easy. With RealVision, I was very happy with the default settings, so that was nice, but I tried others which did not work so well from the get-go. I guess it depends.

I think Rudy ENB is also a rather popular one, which I've been planing on trying out at some point.

-) As for textures, I personally do not use the official high res packs. This is mostly due to me using a summer overhaul, however, which already replaces many landscape textures, so I figured it would be a waste of space to install high res textures I don't even see. Dunno, seemed logical to me. I might add that I have been using the high res pack for some time and after removing it I didn't actually notice much of a difference when I wasn't looking for it.

For clothing I use Rustic Clothing from the Nexus, the performance version (1k to 2k) to be precise. In general, I use the tool Ordenador very often to optimize any textures that come in armor mods and such, because I find I don't care much about 4k and such. Not sure how smooth my setup would run with bigger textures anyway, to be honest.

Lastly, I know you said screenshots don't tell you much, but here is one just to give you an idea how RealVision looks for me.

Anyway, I hope you can take away something from all that ^^'

I decided to go for this one: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/48730

It seems easy to install and it approaches best what I'm looking for.

Now to work up the courage to start installing my gazillion of mods...

If you get tired of that one, also check out Antique Dragon ENB for LE. I think it's one of the best I've tried that brings the best out of human skins :)
