Player character cannot struggle in Devourment Refractor

I'm having an issue where if my character gets swallowed by a combatant, the prompt to struggle comes up (e.g. Press [Left Strafe] to struggle) but no matter if I hold or tap the indicated function, even if it's [BACK], nothing happens and the dragonborn is just converted to mush. Enemies I swallow have no trouble struggling and for a brief while wouldn't even take any damage. I've done clean reinstalls of all mods and wiped all previous save files to make sure there isn't any junk data cluttering things up. Am I possibly missing any other required mods or do I have some settings set wrong? Will provide screenshots if necessary.
