Fallout 4 INI Files in Skyrim Directory MO2

With the new update for Skyrim having been rolled out, I decided I'd clean install the game, remove all the modding fuckery I'd had with Vortex when I first attempted and give it a clean slate with all my files nice and pretty. I deleted all the folders from the Skyrim Special Edition directory, and went to play Fallout 4. I opened MO2 in my Fallout 4 instance and I got hit with an error message about missing INI's. They said the directory was the Skyrim folders. The ones I deleted. How do I fix this/prevent this from happening again?

Let me know if more info is needed.

What you said doesn't sound possible, so I have no idea how to tell you to prevent it from happening.  Did you somehow install Fallout into your Skyrim folder?

?

Edit:  I just double checked my MO2 profile, and the fallout4.ini, falloutprefs.ini and fallout4custom.ini are safely tucked away in my \profiles\profilename directory, which is where they'd reside by default.

The only thing I can figure is, make sure to check "Use Profile-Specific Game INI Files" by clicking the Profile drop down box and then <manage>

After the ini files are initially loaded and you use MO2, you always want to maintain and edit the files from within MO2.

Use the icon that looks like puzzle pieces.  The ini editor is there.

If your ini files are missing from both C://Documents/My Games/FO4 and MO2 then I would recommend going to Nexus and getting BethINI.

BethINI at Fallout 4 Nexus - Mods and community (nexusmods.com)

This is a utility that can create and modify your ini files, so if lost or messed up, this will get them back in order.  BethINI is run as a standalone application outside of MO2.

This is where mine is located:  C:\Modorganizer 2\BethINI Standalone.  Just double-click the BethINI.exe to launch it.  Close MO2 before using BethINI.  You will need to tell the application which game you are using.   It can be used for Skyrim and many other Bethesda Games, thus the name.  Once the files are generated then open up MO2.   Open up each ini file and select all the text, then go to MO2 ini editor and paste text into the same file in the editor.  This way your MO2 ini editor is the same as the files under documents.  If you need to modify in the future, then do it to the ones in MO2. I believe MO2 will look at these and not the ones under documents.

You should be back in business now.  The game will initially generate the ini files on game launch, if they are not found, but they won't have all the settings you needed for most mods.
