Need help getting SSE/SKSE to work properly

For the past few months, I have been trying to troubleshoot this on my own, but to no avail. Every time I launch SSE through SKSE, it begins loading, the screen turns black like when it is booting up the game, then immediately crashes while the icon flashes orange. Launching through the normal SSE launcher does not see this issue, it takes me straight to the main menu. I use Vortex Mod Manager and I have never had a problem that I couldn't fix yet. I had a save running with basically all of these mods that just stopped working, in the way that I described, in June. I have since been trying to fix it. I have tried:

-Restarting my computer

-Uninstalling and reinstalling SSE and every single mod cleanly

-Verifying the integrity of the game files

-Disabling every mod and plugin, then verifying the integrity and finally starting through SKSE (Didn't work)

-Checking every mod and plugin for missing masters

-There is no issue with the firewall or protections with my computer

-I clean installed everything once and SKSE wouldn't work then

-And I just uninstalled and reinstalled everything again today to try to get it to work again. SKSE launched Skyrim properly, so I installed everything new (Didn't work)

The only thing I haven't done yet is reach out, so if anyone has any idea what could be going wrong, I would be super grateful. I added a few mods after restarting it all again in hopes that it might actually work. There is a chance I missed something, so any help or ideas are appreciated. Mod order below.

you probably have some disturbing and / or malfunctioning and / or incompatible mods

 

Are you sure you have installed the mods correctly?

 

Test:
Disable everything except Skyrim, Update, DLC, if installed, Alternative Start

in game, open the console and type coc qasmoke  or coc_qasmoke . This will throw you into a test room . If the game starts at you, activate the mods a little at a time

 

The Load Order Optimisation Tool  You should optimize the load order and, almost certainly, clean up the Masters SSEEdit

FNIS, does it report errors? Have the various FIX been installed?

is that your mod list or load list. If load list, it looks like you might have exceeded the 255 plugin limit (or 252 depending on who you talk to) 

 

secondly, have you tried using SKSE 2.0.17?  I'm unable to run 2.0.19 in my setup, presumably due to some old SKSE version-dependent mod in my list. I'm not saying it *is* the case for you, but it is a possibility.

There are probably a few esl flagged esps in there. You can break the 255 limit with those.

What version of SKSE are you using and have you tried running skyrim from within vortex by setting SKSE as a primary

 

 

As it should then tell you after the crash what the incompatible plugin / SKSE issue is

 

If you were making it to the beth logo and then crashing it would probably be a missing master file but crashing before reaching that is normally a SKSE incompatibility from my experience (never tried going over the plugin limit myself so might also cause it like the others have mentioned)

 

If vortex doesn't want to play ball and report anything then you could try checking the SKSE logs which are normally \Documents\my games\Skyrim Special Edition\SKSE

 

 

skse64 is the main one although the _loader will have version details

FNIS, does it report errors? Have the various FIX been installed?

I installed the mods the same as I always have, and there have been no major problems before.

I disabled everything as you said, the game still would not start up. I have no idea why. Verified the game file integrity as well beforehand.

I cleaned everything with LOOT and SSEEdit, FNIS reported no errors. Still not starting.

I'm probably just going to reinstall everything and test everything one at a time. It probably has something to do with the mods. Thanks for the suggestions though.

I tried using an older version of SKSE. Didn't work. The plugin limit is not exceeded, that is a mod list. I am at 219 plugins.

One tip. If it's already broken, adding more mods probably isn't going to help things. 

 

thoughts: I'm not sure how you added your mods. Did you do it in a bulk install operation, or did you check for stable game play inbetween mod installations?  The former method is a recipe for issues. The latter method is a near guarantor that the game will work (even if it has minor hiccups, since you can catch any problematic mods when they are first installed. and uninstall them (and revert to a previous save) before they become deeply embedded error sources.

I bulk installed a handful of them. I'm doing a fresh install of everything anyways, and I'm doing it like you described, so I think it should hopefully work out this time. (hopefully)

Take your time. It's admittedly tedious, but you will avoid many problems by being "plodding" about it.
