amazin123456 Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 So first of all I'm definitely some what of a beginner when it comes to doing this sort of thing but I think I really do like it. First of all a big issue I'm having right now, is that it's hard to get one thing to stay in one place while the other moves. So for example, let's say I move one bone, then the other ones will move with it but I actually don't want those ones to move. You can say for example if a character is getting fucked and maybe the hand slides forward as oppose to just staying where it is. In other words I can't lock it in place. While I could just snap the location back to where it was using the 3d cursor, it doesn't always look the way I want it to. Sometimes I wish there was a way to just rotate it back to the same location as oppose to just grabbing and moving it without rotation. Or maybe even just locking it in place while rotating other things. Is there a way to do that or is there some other technique I can use? Of course I'm still pretty new at this sorta thing so I also need to know a lot more.
Brisbane Australia Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 Blender has what's called a Dope Sheet, if you already know about it then this post is pretty useless, but if you don't I suggest playing with that, it allows you to copy and past frames and bones around. It's the screen with all the little dots.

All though I still don't entirely know how I would go about locking specific bones in place so I can rotate other things and what not. Like placing a hand on a flat surface for example and making it stick in one place while the rest of the arm rotates, that sort of thing. It's hard to explain but I don't really understand how to accomplish it.

To lock bones in place I suggest Googling for Blender IK, the IK function locks the bones in place but it can be really messy when starting out, when I was learning about bone movement I found it easier to not use IK and manually position the bone on each frame. The way I would attach a hand to that position today would be place the whole arm into general position for the basic animation frames then IK the hand to the exact point afterwards, so the final product looks like the hand is stuck to that point, that's just how I do it though, experts might say otherwise.

Thank you I'll look into it.
