Slang and Sound Effects Dictionary

Hi, I guess that anyone who has used the auto translation engines to try and figure out a Japanese game or mod knows that they're not always 100% accurate in what comes out.

 

So the answer to a WTF moment was to look at the original Nihon and try to work out the odd bits with a dictionary and websearches.

 

I'd like to suggest that anyone who like me has ferreted out any clues as to what the Japanese really means might like to share it in a thread here as a common resource for all. If this is the wrong place please kick it into the right one.

 

These are some of the things that I've found out. Profound thanks to the many scholars who originally put this stuff on the web. (I'll give credit/links as I recover where stuff came from, I didn't usually record the source when I was making notes).

 

Sound effects really mess up auto translators, but several of the mods I've looked at use them in the dialogue.

 

SOME SOUND EFFECTS

ブシュ bushu. not so gentle sound of woman ejaculating huge amounts of pulsating liquid. Apparently this is known as Shiofuki. (lit. the “blowhole of a whale.")

カッ katsu. sound of the someone stopping dead in their tracks.

Laughing is another thing that I've seen used that the engines try to make sense of

and some slang, just isn't recognised, is translated literally or is prudishly ignored.

あおかん (青姦) ao-kan. outdoor fucking

あかいうま (赤馬) akai uma. (lit. red horse) arson, large fire; vagina; a horse with a dark reddish coat

あかがい (赤貝) aka gai. (lit. red clam) vagina of an adolescent girl or young woman

あかん akan no. forbidden; don’t.

あげまん (あげマン) age-man. easy lay (student slang)

あさまん (朝マン) asa-man. morning fuck

あさり (浅蜊) asari. (lit. short-necked clam) vagina of an adolescent girl or young woman

あじわう (味わう) ajiwau. (lit. taste, savour) have sex

あそこ asoko. (lit. yonder) vagina

あそこのけ (あそこの毛) asoko no ke. woman's pubic hair, bush

あつあつになる atsu atsu ni naru. (lit. become hot hot) fall in love

あついもの (熱いもの) atsui-mono. (lit. hot stuff) semen

あな (穴) ana. (lit. hole) vagina

あばずれ abazure. slag, hooker, whore (used insultingly)

あれ are. penis; dick; cock

あわび (鮑) awabi. (lit. abalone) large vagina

あんこ anko. female role (in a gay relationship).

おっき okki = 勃起 bokki. Erection

オカマ okama. Cross dresser, effeminate man

男の娘 otokonoko. Cross dressing boy, "Trap" NB. KO　(娘:girl) is different from 男の子 (子:child) which means "boy".

乙女ロード otome roodo "Girl's Road", area of Tokyo where not many of the "girls" are girls if you get my drift.

カウパー kaupaa. Pre-cum (Dr. William Cowper who apparently invented it)

カリ・かりくび kari, karikubi. Glans Penis. Also known as 亀頭 (kitou).

ガマン汁 gaman jiru. pre-cum

金玉・キンタマ kintama. Testicles.

ニーソ niiso. Knee high socks.

ニューハーフ nyuu haafu. "New Half" - Transvestite or transexual.

Two other things that screw translation engines are "wordplay" that many of the mods contain (e.g. doubling and stretching words and even backslang) and typographic effects (like reduced characters).

 

This is the tip of the iceberg, as I sort out more from my chaotic notes I'll post it if people want. If I'm the only one interested in this, let me know, but I hope people will post their own collections (and corrections) to make this a mega resource that really helps make translation easier and faster.

japanese have an excesive use of sound in their language which we cant translate correctly. for example, they have different words for rain falling down on different surfaces.

The word 'Creampie' means nothing to me either, so I guess it is American English slang, which can be very different from British English Slang. (Just to make things even harder for out non-native english speakers.)

 

As an example, two British children might have a conversation 'Can I borrow your rubber?' I'm informed two American children would NOT have such a conversation. (English Rubber=American eraser)(American Rubber=English Condom).

 

As over here we think of withdrawal as completely ineffective and the contraceptive pill has been widely available since the late '60s, maybe we don't have a phrase for this?

i hope i might add some correction to your translations labrat.

 

Please do! That's the general idea. We can all pool our knowledge so that translating things is more fun and easier. The translations I have are sometimes "best guesses" particularily where the source was the translation of, for instance, the cover of a DVD by someone who wasn't that familiar with either Japanese or English!

 

If you don't mind I'll go ahead and incorporate your notes and translations in a revised post #1.

 

 

Creampie:

 

Yes, creampie is a slang term referencing the fact that western sweet pastries often have a semi-liquid cream coloured filling that oozes out when you bite into them. I believe that there is also the connotation of what in the UK are referred to as "sloppy seconds" where a girl has multiple partners in quick succession who haven't used condoms.

 

anal/nervous:

 

I think that this is a reference to the psychological condition which in the west is called "anal retentive" by followers of Freud. Anally retentive people are supposed to be obsessively neat and orderly and highly strung, even compulsive in their behaviour. It has thereby become a commonplace to describe someone who is a bit finicky as "anal".
