Npc hairstyles and "greyface"

Right. This is an awfully uncool post to have as my first after ages of lurking but I've run into an annoying problem. Any mod that alters/replaces npc hairstyles gives them the greyface bug. Cots (I thiiiink), apachii npcs hairstyles and so on.

Easy solution, keep original hairstyles on everyone but custom npcs or pcs. But it's kind of stupid looking comparing to otherwise modded characters :/ any ideas as to what could be leading to this? Maybe I'm halfblind but I haven't found many cases of this to do with hair and not skin textures or ck.

Edit; Have used the search function and stuff. If there's something I've missed feel free to point me in the direction, and my apologies.

CoTs? Climates of Tamriel? That doesn't edit any NPC's. Oh wait, Children of the Sky...nm...sorry not terribly familiar with that mod myself. I just know its hosted here. Apachii's hairstyles, by themselves...don't make any changes to NPCs.

The fix for this is removing any mod that does edit NPC's in any way, or, using the CK and fixing the NPC's yourself by finding the ones that have the issue in the Actors list, and selecting them in the list menu, and hitting ctrl+F4 to ensure their facegen data is saved locally and overrides the BSA data.

I once tried out an npc overhaul for the apachii hair pack, which is what I was referring to. And yeh children of the sky, although I'm not sure if it's that one or another race mod that comes with some hairstyles. But it's not really important what mod's cause it. As just any hair change seems to do it.

Already pointed out the solution was just disabling the hairs. But if it turns out to only be a few select npcs I'll check out the ck method. It seems to mainly affect redguard npcs. Thanks.

I came across something like this when trying to build Amne's Beautiful Characters (I combined head6 and am still redoing some textures to be seamless) and having Sexblivion lower in the list.  Couldnt figure out why the heads and textures wern't working with the woodelves, Bretons, Imperials ... turns out the old sexblivion.esp had outdated entries in its races that wern't used but were overridding my mod.  I loaded up CK, hit details on Sexblivion and hit del on the race entries (CK ignored these on load) ... saved and all was fixed

You might be going through the same thing

EDIT: Sorry just realized you were in Skyrim, I was talking about Oblivion but the problem may be the same
