Having a couple of issues I can't explain...

So, I'm replaying skyrim, in an attempt to actually beat the game, without mods. I haven't played in about a year, and I started with a clean install, no saves, no mods. Turns out, "no mods" lasted for about 5 minutes. I'm currently using SkyUI, widescreen_sky_ui_fix, True Master Trainers, Unlimited Training, and Ultrawide Skyrim. Now, on to the problems I am  having.

First, stealth doesn't work. I crouch down, enter stealth, and I will hold alt to creep around, in an empty space, in doors, with no one around, and I'm detected the second I move. If I enter stealth and there are enemies around, I'm immediately detected and bum rushed.

The second problem I am having is, when enemies attack me, THEY take damage. For the record, I am not wearing the Ebony Mail.

I was having a 3rd issue, but I found a save that wasn't having it, but still curious as to what it is/was. Every time I would swing a weapon, my animation would freeze mid attack, power attacks would cause me to speed run and bounce around, same with two-handed weapons, and bows. Not sure what happened with that, again, found a save where that wasn't a problem, and still haven't run into it again. Possible culprit for this might have been abusing the alchemy/enchant/blacksmithing system...but unsure.

Any help would be great.

Are you playing the "Special Edition" of Skyrim, or the original "Legendary Edition"?

Do you have any other mods other than what you listed?

Are you using a mod manager such as Vortex, Mod Organizer 2 (MO) or Nexus Mod Manager (NMM)?

Can you post your load order in a spoiler tag? (Look for plugins.txt or check your mod manager documentation for how to export a list of plugins)

What level is your character, have you put points into Stealth?

I don't remember having to hold down a key to stealth, I'm not sure why you are holding the alt key?  By default the stealth key is Ctrl.

Skyrim Special Edition

MO2

81ish

I have all skills and perks maxed out

Holding alt is the default walk button, to move slowly and make less noise.

Have these issues been going on for all 81 levels or did they just start happening recently?  If recently, is there a previous save file you can try that doesn't have the issues?

You mentioned you were replaying skyrim, is this the same installation folder that you played from previously, and if so is it possible that you manually installed mods directly into the data folder at the time?  Or have some creation club mods that aren't showing up in your mod manager?

I was not aware of that being part of the sneaking mechanic.  Interesting.

Yeah, they have. Been looking on line every so often with different search terms to see if I could find anything, but nothing.

No, this is a new SSD that has never had skyrim installed on it. I haven't been manually installing mods for 5 years, and, I've been modding skyrim since 2013, and would know better (sorry if that came out rough). I don't have any monetization club mods at all.

The puzzling thing is, this has never been a problem. Until now, for the last 6 or so years, I've been pushing skyrim and skyrim SE to the max with mods, running dangerously close to the fine line of stability. Never had this issue ever.

I'm not even sure if walking (moving slowly) while crouched even does anything, it's just something I've been doing compulsively since I bought the game back in 2012 or so.

One thing that I've seen cause a problem with stealth is if the game thinks you are 'in combat'.  For example I've had that happen if I run away, even load into another zone like a house or a city, but usually you can tell if you are in combat because the npc's will make fight comments.  It's super weird to have that bug going on for 81 levels though.   There's a command for force stopping combat but normally if this bug happens you can't fast travel either (can't fast travel with enemy's around message).  So if you have no problem fast traveling it could be something different.

Have you tried creating a new character?  One mod that you can use to help test is Alternate Start for SE, that way you don't have to go through the whole cart sequence every time.  It just puts you in a prison and you can actually choose the original start from there as far as I remember.  Unbound Reborn is another good (and completely separate, can't use them both) alternate start mod which puts you hovering above Helgin until you configure how you want to start in the MCM and then sticks you in a hallway with no npc's to do character creation, and you stay in there until you hit the Enter button.

Edit: Also you should backup your save files before adding any mods just in case. and once you are done testing if you go back to your old save disable / uninstall any mods you added for testing.  And actually with Mod Organizer, you can create a separate profile for testing, and make sure to check the box for separate saves  but still just back your lvl 81 character save files before making any changes.

You could temporarily use 1 of those just to create a character for testing and then disable them if you don't want them.

I've never heard of the second issue happening without some mod involved, and the ones you list I don't see how they could impact damage.

If this stuff keeps happening with a new character, honestly I think the next step is to do a file verification of your game through Steam assuming that's the platform you are working from, and just double check that your SKSE files are still there afterwards.

This part of the Loverslab forum isn't specifically for Special Edition Tech support, there's a separate area for Skyrim Special Edition Technical Support just so you are aware in case you have further issues, but generally people help with both versions here too.

Maybe someone else will have a different idea to add but this one has me stumped :)

If a new character doesn't fix it, I will try tech support. I was hoping that this was a bug or a glitch that I have never encountered before. I'm wondering if it's because I rushed through the civil war, and was dodging dragons by entering another cell. I'm not exactly sure when it started to happen, but it's been a vast majority of the 81 levels. I never really noticed the stealth thing until recently, as I was doing the Thieves guild and Dark Brotherhood stories. Not a lot of need for stealth with the companions and the mage guilds. I should also point out, that this happens with or WITHOUT a follower, just in case.

The second issue, I'm wondering if there's a bug with a spell effect that didn't end properly, or something. I've just never encountered something like this, even modded to the teeth, in 10 years of skyrim. This all has me baffled. Either way, I'm almost finished, just wrapping up a bit of Dawnguard and then on to Dragonborn stuff (which i have never done). So, after all is said and done, I'll start again, with the mods that I have, and see what the game behavior is like, for now, just tossing up my hands and muttering "well played Todd  Howard, well played".

You had mentioned doing the Alchemy/Enchanting loop to get powerful enchants, how far into the loop did you take it?  Like, what percentage is your fortify alchemy gear, is it like 30 to 50%, or are you up past 100% per item?  I know that taking that loop too far can result in corrupted saves but I had a game where I was able to make weapons that did like 50k damage and it was fine

If you look at your spell effects, do you see anything in there that looks weird?  you can use

help "(spell name)"
player.dispel <SpellID>

to remove a single spell effect if you think one is causing a problem.

I remember my alchemy bonus enchant was somewhere in the neighborhood of 1600%. However, this was going on long before that. Sometime AFTER this happened is when my attacks broke, and my attack animations froze, loading to a previous save did fix this.
