rynak777 Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Requires OBSE 0020+INTRO=====There are hunger and sleep mods by the dozens. I ended up searching a lot, because most of them had a few things in common:- They were obsessed with realism- They were complex, adding items and stuff- Repercussions were hard (sometimes even killing your char)I wanted none of the above. All i cared about, was immersion: It felt like an empty emote, to drink or eat any food at an inn. It felt like just being for show. For this not to be the case, i don't need a realistic simulation, don't need to have difficulty barely surviving. I just needed some subtle encouragement - just an excuse. Then, i found "Bare Neccessities". It introduces itself like this: This mod causes your character to need food and sleep. However, the underlyinggoal is to make the passage of time feel meaningful, adding a sense of urgencyotherwise lacking from Oblivion. The concepts of hunger and exhaustion are afamiliar and immersive way to achieve that goal, but Bare Necessities focuseson game mechanics, not simulation. (That's why there's no thirst component:mechanically, thirst is just another kind of hunger. Micromanagement sucks!) Damn right! And it really JUST does what it says. Nothing more. It is a very simple plugin. There are no extra items, no complex whatever. The mechanics how it works also are extremly simple, and you can customize every single parameter in a very well documented ini-file. I was in love.Minor Problems with the original plugin=======================Over time, i noticed a handful of minor issues. One was, that it didn't recognize some kinds of food, as food. So i fixed that.Another one was, that how much a food item satisfies hunger, was only based on item weight. This became problematic, once i added mods that would let me cook food and the like. For such "high quality food" to actually be more desirable, they would need to satisfy more hunger. But with the original plugin, that could only work by manually editing the items to weight more - them weighting more however in turn was a disadvantage.Long story short: The plugin would need to consider item price, in addition to item weight. I also simplified the original formula a bit, to make it very easy to customize. The new formula in this modified version of this plugin is:Hunger reduction = offset + (weight * weightMult) + (cost * costMult)All three aspects (and every other aspect of the plugin), can be customized to your liking in the ini file.IMPORTANT - ABOUT THE DEFAULT INI-SETTINGS:===============================These are the settings i played with for tens of hours. They were tweaked for x15 gamespeed (instead of the oblivion original x30). If you play at full speed, then edit the ini-file as follows:- BN.ExhaustionRate from 0.8 to 0.4- BN.HungerRate from 0.8 to 0.4With the default settings, one can go for about 12 hours without sleeping or eating anything. At this point, SUBTLE disadvantages kick in (slightly slower fatigue/magicka recovery). At around 20 hours, stats actually begin to slowly decrease.... first fatigue, then magicka, then healths. None of them can however go below 50%. So even if you were to go without sleep and food for 40 hours, the worst that would happen, is that you only have 50% fatigue, magicka and health.Sleep recovers exhaustion at a rate of x3. So, if you sleep 3hours, you recover 9 hours worth of exhaustion. Again, you can change all of the above in the ini-file.Full changelog:=========1.4- item hunger reduc can now also depend on price- simplified hunger reduc formula- items with no isFood flag, but isIngredient flag, now also count as food Bare_Neccessities_Modified_v1_4.zip
