Any way to turn off automatic text emoticon to emoji conversion?

I was wondering if there's any way to turn off the conversion of text emoticons to emojis?

Hahaha, I found myself annoyed at this feature again and tried to google a solution only to find my own thread ? 
Still no way to do this?

If there is a way it's not current exposed to users, would most likely have to be enabled/disabled server side of forum software.

 

Work around (tedious) is to add character before emoji text like _:) , then either space bar or return (enter) after emoji, then go back and remove _ character. If you hit space bar or enter after emoji without _ then it converts immediately to emoji. So not the best workaround and quite tedious. You can use any character, does not have to be the underscore.
