slamdunk Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 I have just completed development of an (alpha) Mod Manager that supports almost any game that fits a general add-ons/map/mod install rules. If a new game is added or changes made to mod installation method the software does not need an update. Apart from one time visit to the site you don't even need to visit the site to install mods, you can browse in the software.i.e. if you already know which mod you want to install. You can install mods for multiple games and do it from one interface and at the same time. I have no mods at the moment since I am not talented enough to be modding However I have tried one thing with Skyrim You can one click Install SkyUI in skyrim. yes with SKSE. So if you have friends who just can't figure it out then this is a cool tool. Only my friends and I have used this mod manager so far to install l4d2 maps and skyrim mods. It is not as complex like NMM but it gets the job done. There was no way for anyone to submit/upload any mods. It had to be done manually by me. I have just added a basic interface to manage login and mod uploads. If anyone builds mods for ANY game and wants to give it a try do let me know. I am not really sure if it will bring any interest. but just in case someone wants to share their work. Edit: Here is the screenshot http://forums.gamingio.com/files/file/2-gamingioinstaller/ with one sample mod of skyrim. site WIP: https://mm.gamingio.com
slamdunk Posted May 1, 2013 Author Posted May 1, 2013 Link/screenshots? Sorry about that. I'll update my post.
Lagoon0654 Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Link/screenshots? Sorry about that. I'll update my post. Hmm, looks good. I like the basic stripped down gui. If Nexus mod manager continues being a piece of shit, I'll give this a go. *I'm sure I'm in the minority regarding this issue.
slamdunk Posted May 1, 2013 Author Posted May 1, 2013 Hi Lagoon. Thank you very much for trying it out and giving your feedback. I am sorry I have no mods on yet. I can turn on the SkyUI mod for a bit, it one click installs SKSE and SkyUI, if you want to try it. If you know of any mods that the author wouldn't mind i can add that for you to try. I don't really think this mod manager will be as big and popular as nexus or curse but a small community would be enough for me to keep working on it. It has been an incredible learning experience and the more people encouraged me from the first private use by friends the more I worked on it. I think a few good people is all I'd care about and like LL community a more closed knit one.
Lagoon0654 Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Holy shit the logo/banner on that site moves. Anyway, my previous comments were based on the screenshots. However I just installed and tried it, but running into a snag.
slamdunk Posted May 4, 2013 Author Posted May 4, 2013 yes you would need to register an account. This is separate from forums, I have uploaded the file to the site as well so you don't need to have forum account. Sorry I should have mentioned that. all though no information is actually tracked about your games it is only necessary to prevent abuse and leech. My first version had no login requirement but it quickly had turned into a bandwidth leech. Someone was simply abusing the service to cause bandwidth spike and slowdown the service. The login prevents automated request (to some extent), SSL prevents dumbass script kiddies who cant work with openssl+curl. Downloads are offloaded from actual site so any amount of traffic will not hurt the response. Another part in development is to allow you to rate the mod as working/not working or give it rating once you have installed it. Again the idea is to not rely on website and easily rate the mods. Fewer steps. One important thing that could have been done was "save login info". Thats actually the first thing in next release. (eta June)
slamdunk Posted May 6, 2013 Author Posted May 6, 2013 quick update. I have added a simple Rating system based on Pegi. You can now upload adult rated mods
