roldoi1911 Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 I have a visual issue, where any NPC set on fire, electricuted, posioned, etc always fades in and out until the effect stops. I dont know whats the cause of it, but someone mentioned Fallout 4 applies “armor” to npc when such FXs are active. Someone else mentioned it have have to do with the materials. I have no clue, hence why I’m posting here. something kind’ve like this.
Guest Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 Vanilla or Modded? This could be something to do with the hit shader of the magic effects. I don't think it's a material issue since the .dds should be in effect/gradients. Load up all mods in FO4 and look at the vanilla effects shaders for something overwriting any entries there. You could also have a loose file overwriting the .dds directly so look for visual mods you have installed. Could be an actual shader issue but I wouldn't check that first.
roldoi1911 Posted March 25, 2021 Author Posted March 25, 2021 Modded. I’ll look though it, although I don’t think I downloaded anything to change it. You can never know with mods.

Guest Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 in FO4edit 0014237E would be the hit shader for say a molotov. That is tied to a magic effect which is then tied to an object effect which is then attached to the weapon itself for example.
roldoi1911 Posted March 26, 2021 Author Posted March 26, 2021 I found it in “Effect Shader”, mods do reference it, but nothing in my mod order modifies any shaders. From what I try to look into apparently, its a bug with custom skins. I’m only using the basic CBBE texture, and Raiders use that same texture instead of the dirty by default.
Guest Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Could explain why that would happen to human characters potentially, but not why that happen to a vehicle. Custom skins for actors shouldn't* touch vehicles in any way. Bar some weird Bethesda game engine craptastic design. Back up your load order & try disabling everything in your mod manager and download a vanilla save after exiting the vault and test on same things as before with flame weapons if your still having issues. Hopefully not and you then you can reenable everything fix your load order back & remove mods 50% at a time and see what witchcraft is causing such fuckery.

Keep stamping out stuff until It starts working.
Guest Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 When a company cobles together a game engine with a hammer fix it with it with a bigger hammer.
roldoi1911 Posted March 26, 2021 Author Posted March 26, 2021 Just noticed something weird. When I light my companions (Piper, Cait a modded in Nora, etc) they don't have this effect. Just everyone else like raiders, scavengers, and even a Vault-tech Staff member I spawned in though Console command.
roldoi1911 Posted March 26, 2021 Author Posted March 26, 2021 Just disabled by mods and tried out a flamer. And, natta, no difference in this visual bug.
Guest Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Disabled all esp/esm/esl or in addition to that also disabled all loose file assets meshes/textures/etc and then still had companions not affected? I'd verify game integrity through steam. But this is over my head if a proper vanilla installed game is causing this effect on non companion actors. Maybe someone more knowledge on the Nexus can reply if you make a post there.
roldoi1911 Posted March 27, 2021 Author Posted March 27, 2021 Yeah verifying didn’t help. I’ll try and post on nexus sometime later. Thank you for your time!
