Definition question: Pose

I'm trying to solve some minor problems in my setup.  While googling and reading FAQs and such, I come across the word "pose." When I think of a pose, I think of someone standing still in a given position, but I've seen it in documentation for various mods that seem to use a different definition. For example, there was one mod on Nexusmods (can't find it now) that seemed to have something to do with making poses work with Osex and Ostim. So...is there a technical definition of "pose" that animators use that's different from the way I use it?
