cobme Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Howdy, I am re-installing oblivion from a scratch and since I use tons of clothing \ armor \ outfit mods I was wondering if merging all of their ESPs together will be a good idea ? To shorten the load list and reduce unnecessary overwrites \ conflicts . After all they all just add clothing equipment, basically, doing the same thing. Why not turn them into a mega ESP ?
Poontank Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 This is absolutely true and a good idea. Armor, clothing and weapon mods are prime candidates for merging. Dunno if you already have got it - in case you don't, get 'TES4Gecko' from here: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/8665 Java is required to run the utility. At the bottom of the description page is a link that will take you to a download page for the latest version. One of my favourite modders has made a good tutorial on how to use the software: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/38655 Stick to the instructions master Brasher is giving and nothing should go wrong. Like DB states, for the rare cases something does go wrong it's a good idea to back up your files before starting. Sometimes small adjustments and tweaks have to be done in the Construction Set afterwards. But since these are only equipment mods you are going to merge, eventual tweaks should be minimal if necessary at all. This applies to armor and clothing mods that just add containers with items to the world, shop mods are a different thing and might better be left alone.
cobme Posted April 9, 2013 Author Posted April 9, 2013 I didn't think it will be that simple ! Many thanks for the informative reply. Is it okay to delete the now merged ESPs that I merged? I understand that having inactive ESPs lying there is not very healthy. (?)
Poontank Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Let's say remove them from the 'Data' folder. Move them into some other directory, maybe even an external HD. That way in case you will ever want to go back to the previous set-up it's easier to retrieve the esps you had installed than go searching for them in the original mod archives. I'm probably a hopeless backup fanatic, but I experienced instances having such files lying around came in handy. As soon as you have merged a few plugins you will be surprised how easy the process actually is.
