fluffehpanda Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 When i search for a solution to make a glossy face for a character, every post goes like this "Use Nifskope to set glossiness" How do i do it exactly? Thanks in advance.
Poontank Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Do it like this: In the 3D window click on a skin part you want to glossify. This marks the branch in question in the block list to the left. Expand it by clicking on the + box, click on the palette icon to make the material property options appear and use the slider at the bottom to increase the mesh's glossiness. If you want maximum gloss scroll down the block details list at the bottom of the screen (if it's not there make it appear by pressing F3) and set the numerical parameter for glossiness to 1000. Repeat this process for all skin parts of a Nif. Now you only need to save the file, overwriting the previous non-glossy version.
fluffehpanda Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 Thank you very much Poontank, it worked! I tried searching for a tutorial like this, but never found it. Thanks again!
Poontank Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 There's one other edit you should do whenever you work on a Nif, the final step before saving: Once all body parts have the gloss you want, select 'Spells' > 'Batch' > 'Update All Tangent Spaces' to get rid of what people call the "Mesh Burn" effect. There is a visible difference in the 3D display of the mesh after applying this spell in case there are tangent spaces to update. If there are none, nothing will happen. All the better. You'd be surprised how many mods include meshes that need this edit...
