Co0n Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Hey guys!I had this idea for several months now and I really think this is something awesome the community could do: A modular dungeon mod What the hell is that? Imagine a dungeon framework, for example a tower. you have the Entrance and the top, but nothing in between. So now every modder who wishes to add a new level can simply do it by following a few rules (so it keeps being easy to add new levels ;-) ) Every level is a mod on it's own and contained in a seperate .esp file. So the idea is a community dungeon mod, basicly. to makes this work, every new level needs to have end with the starting cell of the next level. simple Example: 1st floor Contains the Exit and the door to the next level (+ everything the author of lvl 1 wants to have in the first floor) Also contains an empty cell to which the door leads. The only thing this cell contains is a door leading back. 2nd floor 2nd floor needs to load first floor as masterfile! (ofc ^^) the Author can now use the empty cell to beginn his/her own level. As 2nd floor is loaded after 1st floor in the load order, you can actually overwrite almost everything, as long as the door stays intact. 2nd floor ends with a door leading into an empty cell for lvl 3, just like lvl 1 did. To speed things up, a simple template can be offered already containing the necessary stuff (where the author will have to edit the door links etc.) In skyrim it always bothered my how every dungeon is almost the same. The "riddles" you had to solves were nothing more than pressing a button (or too if it is a really hard riddle), no thinking needed here. Also every dungeon in skyrim is super linear, you have 1 way of doing it and there is next to 0 exploration. by having many different authors creating different levels a dungeon could become super versatile! The tower example is, as I said, just an example. actually a pretty bad one since this would NEVER have an end at all. My idea whas a bit different here. the "1st level" contained a sealed door which needed 7 "Keys" (like those cubes in the dragonborn dwemer dungeon) to get opened. the final room then containes the final boss of the dungeon and the reward. There are 7 doors leading to 7 levels. These contain hard riddles, deadly traps, evil creatures - everything you as a level author can think of. (The number is flexible depending on how many people actually want to produce a level ;-) ) You can do whatever you want however you want - just make it exciting and not mainstream! There are 3 things your level has to have: 1) the key at the end 2) the door to the 1st level ;-) 3) some relation to the storyline Story: The story behind this is, that something very powerfull and very evil got sealed in that room for centuries by a group of paladins serving Meridia. Over the years the seal got weaker and this "thing" started corrupting the people watching over it. But now they fear that the seal might not hold any longer, so somebody has to get in there and end it all - and who might be better for that task than the dragonborn? A young and beautifull Nord approaches the DB to ask him for help. (Note: we may be on LL, but not every woman is a slut. This paladin devotes her life only to serving Meridia.... for now) Upon entering the dungeon, you and your new Paladin Friend come closer to the influence of "the Prisoner", than anything for over 200 years. As the seal is pretty weak by now, the Paladin actually ends up getting caught by "the Prisoner" and is now sealed with it in it's chamber. (you know wha'ts going on in there now) It's the players duty to unlock the seal, kill the Prisoner and rescue what's left of the Nord Paladin. As you unlock the gate you find out that "the Prisoner" actually is an Avatar of Molag Bal, the evil at it's finest. As we know Molag Bal has a flavour for young women, and so do his servants. Once you kill the Prisoner and free your friend her will is broken and she would do whatever she's told. It's on you to decide if you want to help her to become the proud Paladin she once was - or keep her as she is. The end. Please keep in mind that this is only a very simple concept and not even close to really getting started. i have some consntruction kit problems right now, so I can't get started - and I will not start anything until I know if the community actually likes this and there are at least a few people who are willing to create levels :-P I only once did a few personal mods for oblivion, nothing big so don't expect miracles from me please What do you think? Would you take part in this?
« Broken ‡ Mirror » Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 There was the Mjana's Labyrinth by Trykz. Kind of like your idea but seems like nobody took an interest in it
jimmy1971 Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 As broken mirror said if you would like to do this Trykz has put in a lot of work already I think it would be awesome if you were the first to make an addon for the Labyrinth!!
Co0n Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 Actually, I dont like the Labyrinth, so I dont have any personal interest in improving it :/ But that just tells me, thaty idea may not be as good as i thought
« Broken ‡ Mirror » Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Hm... and can I ask where is the labyrint? http://www.loverslab.com/topic/8899-wip-mjanas-labyrinth-a-new-beginning/ http://www.loverslab.com/topic/9327-mjanas-labyrinth-mod-author-support-and-discussion/ http://www.loverslab.com/topic/9323-mjanas-playground/
