HDT PE performance problems

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I decided to go for another LL playthrough and installed a bunch of graphics mod and afterwards I installed All in One CBBE Hdt Animated Pussy, which installs hdt, hdt XML's and some other stuff.

When testing I experienced a big performance hit. In Dragonsreach I had around 30-40 fps which is very unusual for me. I thought I overdid it with graphic mods but after disabling All in One HDT(...) my fps jumped straight up to 60, where I capped it. I uninstalled All in One HDT(...) and installed HDT PE and XLMS and skins seperatly. Again, I experienced a big performance hit.

I have never experienced this with HDT neither on SSE or LE. What can cause this performance hit and do you know a way to fix it?

I have a GTX 1060 and a i5 6500 and here is my modlist (from bot to top for some reason):

Hi.

Are you using custom configuration for HDT XML ?

In my case, I did the same in LE and SE: Enable OpenCL, but use the Intel GPU built-in (it has to be enabled in BIOS/UEFI config, and be sure to use maximum possible of memory for it that you can spare: at least 1 GB)

Here is THE instruction manual:

https://www.loverslab.com/topic/141156-tweaking-the-hdt-smp-config-to-properly-utilize-opencl-for-big-gains-in-performance-and-accuracy/

will change your life... and it has to run in the iGPU, the nvidia doesn't work that well with OpenCL.

In an i7-10700 w/48GB ram (I got a Titan Maxwell 12GB, it's quite aged, but it works decently enough; the 1060 is a Pascal, the next in line; haven't tested OpenCL in one of those

)

I set the hdtSkinnedMeshConfigs\configs.xml like this:

<configs>
        <!-- GPU: true  CPU: false -->
    <opencl>
        <enable>true</enable>
        <platformID>2</platformID>
        <numQueue>256</numQueue>
    </opencl>
    <solver>
        <numIterations>16</numIterations>
        <groupIterations>16</groupIterations>
        <groupEnableMLCP>true</groupEnableMLCP>
        <erp>0.25</erp>
        <min-fps>60</min-fps>
    </solver>
</configs>

(set the min-fps to 30, and that should do quite decently)

Another optimization, is in the XML collision files replace: 'per-triangle-shape' by 'per-vertex-shape' in every file (well, if you're a purist, keep the ones for labia/vagina and schlong/penis with triangles); the idea is using approximates instead of the more precise triangle intersections.

Then you have to take other smart approaches: lower some shadow quality , and apply some other mods:

Lower the light intensity (if you're going to use it with an enhanced sneaking mod, edit it to 32)

https://bethesda.net/en/mods/skyrim/mod-detail/4116017 (I think it's for SE: you'll have to backport or hand-make one for LE if that's the case)

And apply others from that same author to kill effects that may not be really required.

In interiors, convert these mods to SE (or in LE, merge them by hand)

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/10789

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/54964

RW2 has an optimized water texture, use it.

And play without the ENB, or look for one that is lighter... that is the killer if you don't have an i7 with something above 6GB VRAM, hopefully  8; but the HDT-SMP config files, should do some magic

Consider lowering texture quality to 2k, 2k-1k in some cases.

In my case, without the ENB, in an i5-4460 with 16GB RAM and the Titan, with those tweaks I was hitting above 50 fps, constantly, with 4k textures.

I don't doubt that RS Children is an FPS killer: more resolution and detailed, more polygons, skeletons, etc... And on top of that I use "Realistic RS Children Overhaul".

In my case, my settings were in SE; in LE, it should be the same principle (I'm testing Enderal, and managed to slip HDT-PE without an issue. with exactly the same opencl setting)

And thanks for the patch  :)

EDIT: Ah, I also purchased PrimoCache, and assigned: 3GB for caching in the System drive (C), and I have an NVMe (D), with skyrim and its variants, and modding. That one got a nice 21GB of ram cache. For textures and everything, works pretty well for feeding the fps system. In the i5-4460, I used about 4 or 5GB for caching an SSD, and it was quite noticeable a difference.
