Add custom race to mod

Hi! I just wanted to know if it is possible to add a custom race to a specific mod so that items from the mod can be equipped for a follower which uses that custom race?

Is it possible with Xedit or CK?

I have tried to manually copy the RNAM for the follower over to the mods additional races, but I get an error since the mod is not a master for the follower mod. 

 

Is it a complicated process to do this?

 

I hope anyone can help me out here.
