What determines if a custom creature is eligible for SL animation or not?

Recently I grabbed a summon mod from Nexus that let you summon some vanilla creatures such as Wisp Mothers, Trolls, ect. These creatures uses a duplicate version of the vanilla races.

 

However, none of them can use the animations of their non-duplicate counter part: a saber cat summon can't use the saber cat animation.

 

But then you have other mods, such as Mihail's Skinned Hound summon, that also uses a custom race, and can use the dog animation sets just fine.

 

I'd just like to know what exactly disqualifies a custom creature/race from using creature animations.

 

I was simply mistaken. Turns out Mihail's stuff had custom support through MNC.
