Guest Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 I recently came across something amazing! Square Enix is developing a game engine called the "Luminous Engine" that is unparalleled from what I've seen. IT LOOKS LIKE FUCKING REAL LIFE!!! It appears that they've gone for photo realism over the lusher painting-like graphics of other engines. So far, no game has been official announced to use that engine. I wonder if this WILL ever be used in a game, as consoles will probably need at least 5 disks and pc users would need super computers to run it! Right, here's the proof: http://media.ign.com/games/image/article/119/1199800/002_1318441489.jpg ...Problem, Cryengine?
Daguy Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 D= Not sure if want. I'm... not exactly sure if I could enjoy games if they looked that real. Killing someone would become traumatic. Sex scenes would just feel like filmed porn. Roleplaying... not sure how that would feel. Eeks, we are getting so close to virtual reality its kind of scary.
sora3 Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 I'm not sure that trailer is of any use really. All I see is just a camera going into an underground area. It could be faked for all I know. If Square-Enix is serious about this engine being awesome, they should do a complete demo (akin to the FFVII PS3 demo) to show it off. Not just someone walking into an underground complex.

windpl Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 "Tech Demo of the new Luminous Engine by Square Enix. Will be released on Xbox 360, PC, PS3 and PSVita." Fake, this consoles aren't capable of detailed polygon rendering
Guest Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 "Tech Demo of the new Luminous Engine by Square Enix. Will be released on Xbox 360' date=' PC, PS3 and [b']PSVita[/b]." Fake, this consoles aren't capable of detailed polygon rendering True, but who said that games made for these consoles with this engine will be at the level shown so far? I highly doubt it.
sora3 Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 I'd be more interested if Square-Enix can make better storylines than better engines.
gregathit Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 I am not sure I will see that happen in my lifetime................
Eugen0001 Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Even this is not fake waht does the best grafix has use if the game sucks at fun? At least since ff9 i had no real fun in playing the ff games.
Guest Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Yeah, hopefully Square Enix makes some amazing games to go with these amazing graphics. But one can only ask for so much.
LordJerle Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 It might go with this: http://www.thetechlabs.com/tech-news/sony-playstation-4/
Doctrine1-6 Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Now, I'm not one to be skeptical, I couldn't build a rendering of an empty room, but how hard could it be for a professional team of developers to make a hallway look realistic? And there's no way even the next generation of consoles could run that, without being way too expensive. Unless, of course, the entire game takes place in that single cell.
beck11 Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Square's game output is only slightly better than ID's so the chance of seeing this engine used in many games is low. If they license their engine then maybe more developers could make use of it but then there is the problem of translation. Capcom's MT Framework engine is way better than the Unreal3 engine for action/fighting games yet no one uses it except for Capcom cause the documentation is all in Japanese. If the Luminous engine can produce those effects in actual games then all I can say is "Wow", even if Square keeps the engine inhouse.....but a 15 sec video of basically nothing isnt something to get excited about. Lets see some real world applications first.
Guest Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Just to clarify something, I'm not exactly fapping over this engine, nor am I really amazed by it, but with over 9/10ths of our users lurking in the adult mod threads, a catching title for a thread in the remote gaming section is necessary. A 15 second vid is just the teaser of a teaser and I realize that no games, even with that engine, will have those graphics.
dark0nex Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 totally fake. I was just waiting for Rick Ashley to start signing.
Guest Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 totally fake. I was just waiting for Rick Ashley to start signing. It's not fake, it's hard to believe, but It really is real. There are numerous articles, it was officially revealed. Although I admit that the corridor was a horrible example, it IS real. An alien would have probably been better though.
Ryanhabs Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 I am slightly in agreement with the person that wrote about having doubts of a games fun level if made at this ultra-realism look. I love fantasy / RPG and fighting games... I could see it working and keeping the awesome factor of fighting games but I like my fantasy / RPG games to be ... well fantasy games. Think about this in terms of something we can currently relate to... If Oblivion was done with this level of realism and them the lovers mods are added.... you now have an ondemand porn game... now add lovers creatures... I really don't want to see what that would looking like in a realistic setting. LOL It could work with certain venues but not all imo.
Guest Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Oh god, zombies are grotesque enough in oblivion's graphics, but with real life graphics I wouldn't be able to tolerate it.
Ryanhabs Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Oh god' date=' zombies are grotesque enough in oblivion's graphics, but with real life graphics I wouldn't be able to tolerate it. [/quote'] So we agree... too much realism in a game CAN be a bad thing... LOL:P
windpl Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I still believe that it is fake Last tech demo that I saw was running on something that even couldn't be called PC it was "custom" build monstrosity. And that was only face animations and some minor stuff. So I have hard time believing that such detailed real time rendering is possible, and ready for commercial use.

teals03 Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Whether the video is fake or not, there is no doubt that Square Enix is among the top when it comes to graphics. I just wish they would release a decent final fantasy game. After FF10 they have all been pretty lackluster, granted... I HAVE still played them all... Actually now that I think about it, when was the last time Square Enix made a decent game that didnt come from a company they bought. I just hope Eidos doesnt succumb to the Squeenix virus and become Squidix.
Eugen0001 Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Oh god' date=' zombies are grotesque enough in oblivion's graphics, but with real life graphics I wouldn't be able to tolerate it. [/quote'] yeah but more of a problem would be the realism in violence like bullets shatter the skull in all directions n stuff, i would never play a fps thats near the horror of "real" weapon impacts.
tybasedlawd Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Personally, I find Crysis with some graphic mods the most visually impressive by far. Although, GTA4 with icenhancer is baller too.
