mkta Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Hello everyone, Last night I saw again all the LOTR movies and the Hobbit and I got a huge desire to play with dwarfs. Sadly skyrim doesn't have dwarfs race... The dwemmer technology ruins seems like dwarfs technology and ruins, only that if i recall correctly the skyrim lore, they are some sort of elves. So my question is: Are there any mods that adds a dwarfs race in skyrim? I searched for awhile but couldn't find anything Now for the request part: If there is any mod already out there, can someone give me some tutorials and/or resources for creating such a race mod? I wold need to created a new body, some badass, beards, I also guess i wold need to edit the armor meshes to fit their small bodies.. Thank you.
kepler007 Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 The procedure is very easy but it takes a lot of times. because you have to create textures from the beginning. the steps go like this way. 1. use the BSA Extractor and extract the both male and female meshes 2. then extract the skeleton (don't change anything of the skeleton because you can use the existing animations for Dwarf race,no need to make new animations for them since they walk and run exactly like other races ) 3. then use the Niktool Plugin for 3ds max and 3ds max and import those meshes to the 3ds max 4. use the Material Editor and apply the textures on the mesh. if you don't know how to do that then follow these steps. => download the Photoshop and DDS Plugin then use the BSA Extractor and navigate to the Texture BSA file in the DATA folder in the Skyrim directory and extract the body and face textures of any race ( I strongly suggest to use Imperial since they look exactly same as dwarf and their skin colour seems quite match with the dwarfs) then in the same way extract the meshes of both male and female. open the mesh file using the Nifskope and find the BSShaderTexturSet node and change the path of the textures belong to the mesh that you have opened now import this mesh to the 3ds max ,make sure to import everything including the meshes except the BONE. then in the 3ds max you can see how the texture apply on the mesh automatically. now come back to the Photoshop and open the face dds file and edit that file and make him look like a dwarf. save it and again run the 3ds max and see how the changed textures apply on the meshes. repeat this until you get a good look. after you have done with the textures. select all meshes and change reduce the height of the model. the height is portrayed in the Z axis. so now your dwarf is ready =) in the same way separately import the skeleton and reduce the height of the skeleton too. if you feel like it's hard to do that separately. then import both mesh and the skeleton together but when you export them export them separately. you can do that by ticking on the EXPORT BONE/SKELETON ONLY check box. so it will only export the skeleton. after you have exported the skeleton click on the skeleton and delete it and export the mesh. so it will the export the mesh data only. the redo the step to get back the skeleton if you want it again. you can also select the mesh file and export it only. then you have to use the EXPORT SELECTED function in the 3ds max. now you have to do a lot of works with the NifKsope. honestly say NifSkope is the most horrible tool I have ever seen >.< anyway you have to open an intact mesh file using the NifSkope and keep it on one side of the screen. and open the edited mesh file and keep it on the other side of the window. now follow this tutorial http://www.loverslab.com/topic/14934-convert-falloutoblivion-weaponsarmorsetc-to-skyrim-compatible-version/?do=findComment&comment=332362 it will teach you how to make a Skyrim compatible mesh file. because still the Nifplugin for SKyrim doesn't work properly with the Skyrim. so you have to tweak the mesh file using the NifSkope. now import both male and the female model to the CK. and go to the Object window find the RACE section and apply the race. and make sure to the use the skeleton so that skeleton will be used for this race. and in the same way go to the Class window and make a new class. now you have to Open the Actor Window and use created Class and the Race and make a new actor and place him/her in the Game. that's all. but remember you can't still use the existing armors or weapons since they are too big for a dwarf so you have to adjust them too in the way that I have mentioned. but when you add them to the game. use the Armor Addon and Armor windows. you can use the Armor Addons window to specify how each part apply on the body and Armor window can be used to specify how every part apply on the body.
mkta Posted March 8, 2013 Author Posted March 8, 2013 Thank you for the information. I will start working. Though it will take lots of time for me to do this...hope I'll be able to finish it.
TheGreyWolf Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Out of all the Dwarf race mods I have come across http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/29754 seems to be the best designed mod, would be a good place to start.
skirmish Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 I feel like you're making it more complicated than it needs to be. If it were me, I would scale down the player height to 85 or 90% or more. Start with the breton race, they seem a bit rounder than other races. Keep the nose sizes to the larger ones, or make custom TRIs for facial features. There's a mod out there that adusts player head size. I think it's just called RaceMenu and there's a slider for head size. So increase it to compensate for the smaller height. If you wanted to add more from there you could. But custom body model seem like over kill. Skyrim uses the same body type for all races, why should dwarves be any different? Then that way it would be more mod friendly anyway. I dont know how you would do any of this though. I'm just listing ideas based on what i've seen in other mods. Good luck though.
