Steps i have previously taken -

1) Tried a google search and found this at (https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/3873395-swap-npc-appearance/)

""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
2) In the Creation Kit load up SKYRIM.esm and the mod that has the face you want.

3) Go to ACTORS>ACTOR, in the Filter type housecarl. Double click on HOUSECARLWHITRUN, Lydia's character window will pop up.

4) Either write down what the trait menu says, or try and open Lydia's character window twice. Under template data, select the character you want Lydia to look like, then check USE TRAITS.

5) Once everything is loaded, uncheck TRAITS, and put Lydia's traits back to normal.

"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

This replaced the face appearance, but caused the area around neck to turn dark....

Solutions please!

Templates is correct way to do it, so u did good.

Now u have to build FaceGen

1) Select NPC You created //Edit: { Select from Object Window }

2) Click CTRL + F4 ( NOT ALT -> CTRL )

3) Wait for CK, You should get MessageBox

Your FaceGen You can find here:

...\skyrim\Data\Textures\actors\character\FaceGenData... < Open Your MOD folder >

...\skyrim\Data\Meshes\actors\character\FaceGenData... < Same >

Ofc. if You upload Your mod You also have to upload FaceGen Data
