violeteyes Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 Hello! I'm sorry if this isn't the right place. I was wondering if you all would mind giving me pointers on this. I am extremely new to video editing and made this purely for fun using a mix of movie maker 2012 and the video editor on Win 10. This is just one clip, sound was not checked, and I just wanted some advice on how I can make it better or what exactly is wrong with it (aside from the quality). So...outside of the quality (which I also would like to know how I can improve), what do you all think? On the Desert Sands clip.mp4
Vthena Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 I don't want to be too harsh, since it's just made for fun. But the video it's not very engaging. The lack of cuts makes it quite dry. And maybe it's a bug on my end, but the video isn't matching the frame, and seems to move around. But filming/editing can be fun, and if you enjoy it, then great! We all have to start somewhere. I gave a few tips regarding screenshots, yes it's not video but maybe it can give you some ideas :

Thank you very much for your feedback! I will admit, the programs I'm using don't really allow for much wiggle room when it comes to editing the scenes to make them look better and my lack of skill doesn't help. Also, that wasn't a bug. I only noticed it afterward but the video never fits the frame properly. That also might have to do with the programs I use. I also read your advice about photo editing (your shots are amazing, by the way) and will try to apply what you said, especially about not showing the whole subject, to my videos. But I am a bit confused about your comment revolving the cuts. Is there any way you could explain that one a bit more?

Of course, so your video is a sequence-shot with a fix camera. It's not bad per say, but it would've been nice to cut to a close up of the faces, or something like that. Show the actions and the reactions.

I tried again today, mind giving your opinion on this one? It's a different couple but I tried to be more dynamic with the angles and stuff. I am missing a few things in hindsight, but I'm hoping this turned out better! I also didn't use the Win 10 Video editor this time in hopes that the quality is better and that it doesn't look like the video itself is moving as much (but that does mean there is no title animation).
