Porting Armors Issue (See-through Holes)

Hi there.  I've recently been trying to port armors from other games into Skyrim, but each armor seems to have a spot somewhere that is see-through after exporting and opening in NifSkope.  I skin wrap from a Skyrim mesh, so all of the bones are being transferred.  It varies depending on the armor. I have attached a pic to show you. Do you know how to fix this? As views change it is see-through in different parts. I'm using 3ds Max if that matters.

That area is affected by more than 4 weights, the exporter does not cull them on export so you will have to clean any over reaching weights by hand.

There are a few ways of doing it, and its not an easy proses to explain (the shortest video tutorials on weighting are 40 minutes long)

You should first try and find out which weight is the culprit, then you would pick the best method to fix it.

But the 'best' one to use in most situations is "paint weight" set to negative and just brush the weights you don't want away.

Or if its just bones over reaching then using "remove zero weights" set to 0.5 would do the trick, but that is a very broad stroke and affects all weights.

Is the mesh weighted to the skirt bones?

Not sure.   This also happens on other armors though as well, such as the Oblivion steel armor it occurs on the shoulderpads.  Here's a pic.

I'll try the "remove zero weights" and see if that works.  But where is that option?  I don't see a "remove zero weights" button anywhere.adkp5v.jpg

If you're using 3ds,  are you using the skinwrap modifier, and weighting to an existing (as in fully functioning in skyrim) piece of gear?

If yes it should only be weighting to 4 or less bones anyway...  I think anyway...

What are your export settings from 3ds max?  You can set it so it only exports at 4 bones max per vertex, and removes the extra bones.

example:

Does the bsdismemberskinmodifer have multiple partitions?

and if so are all of those partitions selected in the .esp's armor and armor add-on?

Any multiple layers of shapes with alpha properties? (doesn't look like it from your picture, but just throwing that out there)

Last ditch effort:  right click affected trishape   mesh >> face normals

Skin wrap modifier is not a 1 to 1 kinda thing, and can spread weights more than it should.

The exporter does not remove the extra bones no mater what number you put in there.

The bsdismemberskinmodifer is a good thought but it has no visual effect in nifskope.

Would be funny if it was an alpha doing it....

face normals makes all back facing vertex normals point out, a back facing vertex normal looks dark/black in nifskope so probably not it.

I feel like a bad person typing that. :(

Odd,  I've ported a few things between bodies and never ran into the problem,  I just assumed that, that 4 there did that for me (for weights) and the check box for extra bones actually worked.  Then again I'm so new to modeling anything that I really understand very little of the specifics,  and work mostly through trial and error.

The alpha thing I ran into with lace trim on a skirt and some stockings....  it did the old "disapear in water" trick, and took forever to figure out good alpha settings for.

Unfortunately, the remove zero weights didn't work.  I think I might just give up on the steel armor, since that one is too complicated for me.  There are soo many problems with it.

While I'm thinking of it though, can someone explain to me how to add shields in Nifskope?  I'm trying to convert Oblivion shields but I haven't seen any tutorials for making shields Skyrim ready.
