skirmish Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Isn't one of the reasons Crysis looked so great was because of the ton of LOD models that were used? I'm a newer PC gamer, so I recently bought and played through Crysis for the first time because it was on sale on Steam. I paid a lot of attention to the models and how the LOD models would get loaded in at specific distances from the camera. Maybe I noticed it more because I played on medium to high settings. I was wondering if anyone wanted to help me take on the huge task of creating more LOD meshes and textures for Skyrim, instead of the high detail models simply fading in. Specifically, rocks, terrain and some buildings, and maybe some better trees with baked in shadows because shadows take a huge hit to FPS on my system when I have them with trees, but I'm getting off topic. I lack the technically know-how of exporting models and setting up the actual LOD system, but I am willing to rework/create models and textures. I use blender and photoshop, I also have a student edition of 3ds max 2013, though I don't think an exporter has been made for it yet, and I don't know how to use it really anyway, I prefer blender 2.64. This mod won't only help out the people with lower to mid range GPU's but it could also allow people with higher end PC's to view a higher detailed environment a distance without taking a massive hit by rendering tons of high detailed models. What do you guys think?
