Sanox Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 so a few days ago i decided to try out skse. game worked perfectly fine with zero issues. after putting the skse files into the folder it stopped working. -the game opens in a small window at the top left corner and crashes when it gets to the main menu. -starting skyrim normally via steam same thing crashes after the bethesda logo in a small screen -used a backup of my skyrim folder same thing -apparently skse should make a logfile in the my games skyrim but that never happend either i downloaded skse from here: http://skse.silverlock.org/ the link given in all the mods using skse now here is the thing that is the reason why i made this topic COMPLETE REINSTALL: uninstalled the game using the original disk, deleted the skyrim folder, deleted the skyrim folder in my games. so skyrim was completely removed from my pc. installed it again with the disk let it patch. now its patched but STILL it opens in small window in the top left corner and crashes when it gets to the main menu... i really am out of ideas... i just want to have skyrim working again ;(
FastestDogInTheDistrict Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 To fix the small-size window: when you install/reinstall, you need to run the VANILLA SKYRIM launcher (*NOT skse's launcher) & enter the game's main menu ONCE to let it determine your resolution/recommended settings, and to generate .ini's. It's not a major deal to fix though - just junk your .ini's (LOC: ...\Documents\my games\Skyrim), and do the above. First problem solved. No idea about crashes though. It would be a good idea to provide your load order here. (***This has happened to me in the past and it was because I forgot to do/add something but I can't recall what... it was an easy fix though, it's just knowing what it was that escapes me at the moment...) ALSO: you may be thinking of Papyrus logs. Your Skyrim.ini (at the location given above) should have a little section at the bottom which looks something like this: [Papyrus] fPostLoadUpdateTimeMS=500.0 bEnableLogging=1 bEnableTrace=1 bLoadDebugInformation=1 If that's missing, CTRL+V each line accross and save. If those "1"'s are instead "0"'s, just change them to "1"'s. UPDATE: Re - crashes: Possibly your .ini/s are not set to read files, and/or Skyrim's vanilla launcher does not have the option checked somewhere? I forget what the exact line of that is, but it seems to ring a bell. (... "bEnableFileSelection=1" not present in SkyrimPrefs.ini maybe? And/or a box not ticked/checked via the Vanilla launcher "Data"(?) menu...? I can't remember...)
Sanox Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 as already said this is happening on a clean skyrim install. i reinstalled the game and it is in a fully patched vanilla state with no mods skse or anything bEnableFileSelection=1 was missing in my games, only esm in it is the dawnguard.esm about the full screen both in my games and in the skyrim folder the inis are right in terms of full screen and resolution.
dingirxul Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 A person should always install Skyrim on a fresh windows7 64bit installation. That will give the best results. Reinstall windows. Make a disc image after you get your drivers and tweaks installed, then install Skyrim. Read the various guides like the STEP guide for help and suggestions about that.
