Fallout 4 Updates

Hey Guys!

I haven't played Fallout 4 in a good while. I remember hearing months ago about how the updates were breaking mods and causing issues. I didn't investigate this, but I did turn auto-updates off in Steam. I'm thinking about getting back into Fallout 4, and I'm curious what the community's thoughts are on auto-updates. Is this something I should even care about?

Thanks for the info!

Usually, only the mods containing dll plugins are version sensitive, for example LooksMenu. So yeah, those mods will break after each update. The recommended procedure is: disable automatic updates, keep a copy of the game exe somewhere else (if anything happens and your game updates when you don't wan to, just replace the exe with your copy). Then, after a game update wait a couple of days for f4se and your mods to update (mods that are version sensitive will include the game version / f4se version on the description/download tab). Finally, update your game once all your mods have been updated.

I'm not sure if there is a post about game/mod updates like there is one for Skyrim SE, but it's not that hard to keep track of your own mods. Only a few mods will need to be updated each time, and after a while you get used to keep an eye on those mods for updates.

I'd say if you already have the mods you want and your game is stable, then FUCK UPDATES. Unless theres a new mod that you cant possibly live without theres really no need to ever update your game. Just my opinion.

And like Sternum mentioned- it only matters if its a mod that uses F4SE basically. Pretty much any other mod (new and old) could care less what version of Fallout you have.
