enya Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 Hello, the old DDS plugin for Gimp was developed for 2.8.x. It doesn't work correctly with the new GIMP 2.10.x versions. Has anyone found a solution meanwhile? How do you manage this problem? Thank you for any answer in advance!
RW311 Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 According to forums dds support is standard in 2.10 and plugin should not be needed. https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-How-To-Use-The-Gimp-DDS-Plugin?highlight=dds+plugin

Unfortunately, this information is not correct. Without DDS plugin Gimp 2.10.2 can not open these files. If I install the old plugin for 2.8.x, I can open and save DDS files, but only by first opening GIMP and then selecting the appropriate texture. A direct opening via right-click isn't possible, I only get the "libgimp-2.0-0.dll missing" message. Spoiler Of course I've googled this problem and downloaded the allegedly missing file. But when I tried to add the libgimp-2.0-0.dll I had to realize that the file already existed. Spoiler Didn't dare to overwrite the (much larger) standard file with the old smaller one... I work very often with textures and would like to open them again with right-click.
