Vedren01 Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 Ok so I've been playing with UU ( https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/3334 ) since it released for Oldrim, It's one of my "must downloads". What always got to me though is that the author only re-did a limited number of uniquely named weapons. So cut to a couple of days ago I picked up the Pale Blade and noticed that with the demise of the stencil flag in SE it was now messed up, so popping it open in nifscope to toggle the double sided flag and seeing the half dozen or so uniques from the mod I finally broke down and decided to try my hand at tackling the rest of the unique weapons/shields/staves/jewelry in the game (no armors- ie nothing rigged). I've got a soft spot for the Gauldur Blackblade since its usually the first named weapon I pick up and it stays with me for quite a few levels so that is what I'm starting with. So after about 20 minutes in 3DS Max I got the basic shape of the blade laid out. I know it isn't much, but I figured I'd post it because any comments/conversations will keep me on task so I don't lose interest in the project. So You will notice the blade shape is similar to the original ancient nord sword model, but with cleaner lines (less organic looking). Also the original requires iron and dwarven smithing to improve it... I decided in my head that likely the sword was forged for someone in the Gauldur family by the Dwarves (in the first era) and that they would have created the blade in a similar style to what was common in the region/era, but with the dwarven straight lines and sharp angles. I'm thinking I will give the blade a black damascus finish but the hilt, pommel, etc will be of a more dwarven style and color scheme.... So here you go the first lackluster screen grab of the project... Feel free to leave suggestions comments etc!!
Vedren01 Posted May 30, 2019 Author Posted May 30, 2019 Well, put in a bit more time today (its kinda hard after working all night on 3rds). Got the grip done! Now all that is left is the guard and pommel. Then on to texturing... I'm thinking the first few items I do will be all related to the Gauldur questline such as the the staff, bow, 3 parts of the amulet and the completed amulet. The questline really needs some love as it is almost as involved/large enough to rival some faction/guild quests, but all the rewards are generic... I mean really you have to acquire the Saarthal amulet to get to a piece of the Gauldur amulet which when rebuilt looks exactly like the Saarthal amulet.
