Major stutter after SexoutNG installed

Been lurking for part of a year and trying all the lovely mods you all produce here, AWESOME, but I got a problem

I'm kind of savvy now about W-5 and how to install and mod, everything's in the right place and in the right order, with the latest and greatest mods, updates and utilities, but when I installed SexoutNG, I ended up with a major stuttering issue. Tweaked, altered, edited and configured my comp, installed various game performance mods and everything else I could do to get the smoothest game run I could before and after mod installations and had no stuttering problem I could see.

However, as soon as I installed SexoutNG, I run, stagger, run, trip, run, stumble and so on [and on and on]. Actually even happens when I'm not moving, just looking around. Not real bad when I'm indoors, unless there's a lot of NPC's in the area, but HOO-boyo, go outside and ouchies!

I'm fairly certain it's probably my Talkie-Toaster-Oven of a computer giving me render problems and is related to the scanner function of SexoutNG.

Turning the scanner frequency down to 1 MHz from the default of 10 MHz helps smooth things out, but even so after about a half an hour of play it just starts going and going...well, you get the idea here.

Currently uninstalled everything, wiped my computer clean of anything related, and have re-installed FNV [w/ all DLC's and official patches and PO packs. latest tools and utilities] but before I sally forth again into mod installs I thought I'd better ask in case its my hardware.

Here's my specs;

Gateway GT5082 tower computer w/

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Dual core processor

2 GHz, 512KB L2 cache, 2000 MHz system bus

4.0 GB DDR Dual channel RAM

nVidea 8600GT GPU video card

Standard motherboard that came with the computer [type unknown]

NVSE v3, extender v11, 4 GB LAA Enabler, Dual core optimization for the game, tweaked settings, and anything else I could find out and do to improve performance, so I'm kinda stumped as to why only after SexoutNG was installed.

Just to reiterate, I'm pretty sure its my comp and not your great mod/s

I know I need to get a new computer, but it's going to be a few months before I can buy something truly decent, so in the meantime any and all assistance, recommendations, suggestions, "fix-it" mods or info would be most welcome

Step 1: Eliminate any population mods(i.e. RePopulated Wasteland, Populated Casinos, Warzones, etc.) from your load order if you have them. Every NPC is another hit on your framerate. Same with monster mods.

Step 2: Get New Vegas Configator. You can tweak settings for gameplay, graphics, and sound with a lot more detail than the built-in configuration settings. Read the descriptions for each setting before messing with them, some are hard-coded into saves. Raising them and then lowering them again can corrupt a save.

Step 3: Make sure to sort your mods carefully and use a merged or bashed patch. Conflicts can cause graphic problems.

Step 4: Keep your load order simple. I tried modding New Vegas on a lower end computer myself and the more I added to it the less stable it got.

The modders here at lovers lab are pretty thorough about making stable mods, but read the comments section on anything you get from nexus. The users are often a lot more descriptive than the creators. Watch for apropos of nothing comments, they're a sign of negative comments being deleted.

I was getting similar problems to the ones you describe. Areas like Freeside turn into slideshows after a few minutes and so on. I could eliminate the massive slowdowns by removing script heavy mods that affected that area, like BR, Tryouts and SexoutSlavery for some reason. After they were gone framerates were restored to normal. (I'm running on a I7-920, NVidia 260 GTX and 6GB RAM).

On a side note, your computer doesn't sound like it could handle much. :) I'd go with KC on this one and tell you, that you should probably remove any mod that adds new NPCs and remove all Hi-Res texture replacers. Without your load order there is not much to tell, in terms of what to do and what not to do.

Thank you Kainschilde and Bruce Wayne for the quick response to my issue

I did read the "Tell us this so we can help you better page", so sorry I didn't post my load order, but as stated in my original post, I removed just about everything related as I prepared to reinstall and redo, which included my back-up load order lists and currently only have the base game, DLC's and POP's reinstalled and can't remember what was where with the mods.

[doh!...nuts!...yum, donuts]- Homer Simpson

It's as I suspected, my Talkie-Toaster-Oven of a clunker is almost at the end of it's gaming application life and given the increasing requirements of new games, I know I have to get a new one. In the meantime, I have to work with what I got.

Previous experimentation with Populated Casinoes, rePopulated Wasteland, Goodsprings Filler, and other mods which added NPC's to various areas quickly made me realize that I couldn't use more than one at a time, if at all, although I really want to keep AWOP for the additions and extra gameplay.

I usually don't do hi-res textures, while it does look great and helps with immersion in a lot of cases, I'm all about performance and would rather play a "cartoony/rough/ugly" looking game that's smooth running. It's all about gameplay for me.

"Slideshow, eh". Good term, I've always referred to it as "Watching a bad dancer in a strobe light"...Haw!

I do read the OP's, requirements needed, and comments pages for the mods before I even download them, but I didn't know about the "apropos" thing. Explains why some pages have blank comments in them.

I did just download the New Vegas Configator, saw the description saying you can tweak more than the standard launcher, but I haven't utilized it yet, will do so once I restart modding my game again.

Still reading and learning about FNVEdit conflict resolution, simple once understood, but I'm sure I've messed up a few [dozen] times trying to resolve issues. Ah well, learn by doing. Oh ya, what's the PNAM header at the top of the view window mean? I'm assuming it has something to do with the dialogue/companion priority and probably shouldn't be messed with.

Didn't know a script-heavy mod could cause some of the problems, guess I'll just have to go with minor consensual sex mods for now.

Could someone direct me to a site/page that will let me find out if I can upgrade my computer any farther [for now]? I've got a couple of buddies that have moved on to newer and better and I can get better hardware for nothing if I know it'll work on my machine. I'm having a hard time finding appropriate info [ie...if I know what my motherboard can support, but I don't know what it is].

Another Oh yah. Forgot to say I'm using WIN XP [sp3]-32 bit Media Center edition with all the latest updates, but I know that's probably not the reason for anything I'm experiencing.

Uh, probably a doofus question, but where's the "kudos" button [page/whatever]. Been lurking too long now not to extend my approval/endorsement/happiness with some of these beauties.

How do I use the Signature feature? Is it the "quote" I see all the time at the bottom of peoples posts? I usually have a comment to say like follows at the end of this post. Is that "my signature"?

So, thank you for the great input and advice, and if you have anything further.....

AWOP can be pretty demanding at times, but only in the areas it adds. It's a great mod, so it's worth a little stutter.

Check out this video by gopher concerning merged patches:

He explains some ins and outs and how to create a merged patch. There is a FNVEdit manual available, here: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/38413

They're the busiest ones. Depending on how good or bad the code is, they can have major impacts on FPS.

I'm a little out of touch on the newest hardware things, so can't help you here, unfortunately.

There is a "Thanks!" button, left of the reply button in the first post of each thread.

No, you have to set the signature in your user control panel. Here is a guide that can explain these things way better than I could ever do :D : http://www.loverslab.com/showthread.php?tid=9732

Without knowing the motherboard's manufacturer, it's harder to determine, although I did a quick search for the Gateway model you mentioned and came up with this ( http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/1009053/1009053nv.shtml ). Unfortunately, it looks like 4gb is the max memory on it, so adding memory and updating to a 64-bit OS is not in the cards for that machine. Memory and video are always the big stumbling blocks to games, and sometimes memory can hide some video limitations - I'm running 8gb and 64-bit win7, but my video card is an AMD 4850 (512 mb video memory). But for me textures don't seem to be an issue, and only running mods that opened Freeside (made Freeside 1 single area and added lots of NPCs to the area), caused a slowdown. Unless the link I found above is incorrect, your best bet currently is to do what others have mentioned: play with settings, reduce the use of highly scripted mods, check the mods used to see if there are settings as well to reduce load (populated casino has 3 versions - light, medium, and normal). And save up for a better machine - it doesn't have to be top of the line, just make sure that it can go to at least 8GB, has a 64-bit OS, and at least 1GB video card (2BG if you are planning on playing Skyrim - although my little video card sets to high on that as well  ). And if you can build it yourself, even better (and cheaper, usually).

Well alright! Thanks again to Bruce Wayne, and now to sraysmanll, all of my questions have been answered concerning this issue of mine and I guess we can consider this a deceased topic [thread?]. Great to get such quick responses and vital info that will allow me to move on with my game. Time to start socking away my pennies, I guess.

BTW, I got the FNVEdit manual, that's what I've been reading and I've been going thru all of Gophers videos, which I found a while back. Gonna do that a few times.

Gads, I'm a doofus n00b to these forums and blind too. Don't see a thanks button, do you mean the pm button, taking me to your posting page? I'll use that in the future if that's the case.

KUDOS all!

@ BCk9:

My specs are twice as high as yours and a few month ago I had this stuttering problem too.

I could get rid of the problem by removing the Tryout plugins and SexoutSlavery plus plugins...without these mods everything was fine.

It`s a pain not being able to have those mods installed but performance is important -.-

Btw the problem still occurs without rePopulatedWasteland and/or populatedcasinos...well that`s what I experienced -.-

I spent over a month to narrow the problem down and to test everything...so ini-tweaks and performance enhancing mods/size reducing cannot solve this issue the easy way -.-

Sorry to come back to the topic but I was inspired to make some more tests ^^

I can really definitely say, that I can play this game with highest graphics and tons of mods...but as soon as SOSlavery and/or Tryout plugins are enabled my game begins to stutter extremely as ingame time passes...

when I raise the SOscanner-hz it slows down faster...when I lower it it takes a few minutes more to slow down...the slowdowns come in exteriors and interiors.

It`s seems to me like more and more data is stored in RAM but not deleted...data that cannot be deleted with fast traveling or saving or changing to an interior/exterior cell or with purgecellbuffer command :(

I`m curious to know how others can play with SOSlavery and SOLegion o.0

What am I missing? Is there something special I should consider in the SO-Options or the ini-files? Should I remove more mods to have less scripts running?

Ah would be so cool if someone had an idea -.-

Thx for your effort

I already tried every performance mod available at Nexus ^^

...tried them one by one and all together ;D

NVSR did not solve this special issue -.-

My misery is that the basic performance of my game already is great...but not for long when Tryout and/or Slavery are enabled :(

You may also want to try lowering the scanner frequency in the SexoutNG MCM settings. By default it runs the scanner 10 times per second... try lowering it to say 5Hz or even lower.

Link to comment

I lowered the frequency to 1 but that only gives a few minutes more to play smoothly ^^

Is there a possibility to deactivate the scanner without bombing all SOplugins?

The plugins do not have to work when disabling the scanner...I would only like to test how the game runs with the scripts but without the scanner.

I have installed Enhanced Shaders ENB now...I know not the best idea when having performance issues but I wanted to see how that works...and it works great, it brings up no lower performance...but the stutter appears exactly the same way like before

Another proof that the base performance is good I think o.0

The scanner runs no matter what you do. However, by itself it isn't processor intensive. What it does is based on two lists. One is a list that contains formlists that plugins have placed there to receive scanner results. the other is a list of spells to cast on each scan target found that plugins have placed there. Tryouts places a list and spell in those two lists for each plugin. So... each scanner iteration that produces a new scan target causes each tryout plugin (and all other plugins utilizing the scanner, like many of the rape plugins) to check their list and act upon a target if needed and also to execute a spell cast on the target. I'm thinking that this configuration, while great for compartmentalizing code to each plugin and offering access to the scanner, is also prone to being processor intensive. A refactoring of how Tryouts works and/or how the scanner itself works may be in order. You aren't the only person to have noticed that Tryouts can produce slowdowns. Happens to me as well.

OMG I'm loving these forums. So much useful info, thx you both PhilMc2 and astymma [btw, love your compatibility skeleton], I'm now processing more facts than I thought I would originally obtain on this topic.

I love the Sexout "series" of mods and plug-ins, always thought sex in Fallouts should have been more "visual" as opposed to the vanilla "fade to black", considering the fact sex and prostitutes are originally included in the game.

I can understand the need for appropriate "censorship" for commercial purposes [very restricted sales due to game ratings probably would make it un-viable as a money-maker for the company, or including such in the game release would get some moral minority to start screaming "mental corruption of our children!", not that they aren't already with some games]

That said, knowing others are having the same issues with better computer systems means [to me] that this should be looked at to see if there's a means/method to work this out at the "scanner" level, but that's not something for me to do, considering I'm still learning FNVEdit and haven't even read about the GECK yet.

Guess for now I'll just keep my eyes open and "downgrade" my sex mods for now until something changes.
