[Solved] NPC walks close to fireplace and dies

we all know how advanced the AI is in Skyrim. Even though Bethesda did a great job regarding that part (do you detect sarcasm?), whenever a NPC walks near or into a fireplace, because it is to crowded in for e.g. the Bannered Mare, and they think that the best path to choose is by actually walking through the fire, even though they didn't do the 101 in walking over hot coals on the company bonding day, they catch fire (quelle surprise, all those linen skimpy tavern clothes, not really the fire resistant stuff , is it?) and die. Now of course that makes sense. I tried it once and it didn't end well. Anyway, I kind of have all the stuff installed from the Skyrim ultimate modding guide on Nexus and in previous play troughs I never had the issue. Is there some fix to get rid of this very annoying bug.

 

And sorry for the long winding rant yadayadayada. I hop that Bethesda and Zenimax hire some real programmers for their next game and fire the management and HR department.

Is it a bug or is it a mod you have installed? I have never had anyone burn to death in my game.

I think it is a mod. I have had this issue before and fixed it with installing another mod but I forgot which one was the culprit and which one fixed it. Could be a load order issue as well.

 

Seems to be normal behaviour: Fire Damage in Elderscrolls

 

Because of the many npcs in taverns they have no way to move, getting blocked by other npc's and just die, even essential npcs. Now how to fix this...

Fireplaces and campfires don't cause damage in vanilla. The only mod I can think of that causes such behaviour is this one.

 "I think it is a mod" or "Seems to be normal behaviour". So which is it?

Your link was for magic fire damage which is irrelevant. Essental NPCs cannot be killed by a fire.

 

As Trykz and I have pointed out, fires do no harm in the vanilla game. Therefore your rant at Bethseda was pointless and incorrect and the fault lies with you not knowing what mods you have installed.

I found the culprit and it is the Unofficial Skyrim City Patch. It adds damage trigger boxes  (DB10FireDamageTriggerBox) to the fire pits in some houses/inns. I deleted them from the mod with TESVEdit and everything seems to be fine (for now). Thanks everyone for chipping in.
