Civil War: take over holds by defeating their jarls.

It is well known that, during civil war quests, you can take over a hold by beating its jarl down on his knee, instead of siege the fort.

I really prefer this approach because it has minimum impact on the game world:

  1. Ruling family remained. Otherwise they would be exiled, their side quests become inaccessible, and the settlement become less populated.
  2. Hold guards remained. Otherwise they would be replaced by faction soldiers.
  3. Military camps of your faction remained. Otherwise they are removed after a hold is taken.

Now my problem is, I don't know how to capture the forts following this approach. If I go beat the jarl instead of siege the fort, the fort will remain occupied by the opposition force.

I'm very certain it is possible to follow this approach and still properly take the fort (through some tricks or console commands), because I did that years ago. Strangely, I cannot remember how, and cannot find any related info on google, and man, I googled so hard!

Does anyone here knows how? Or saw some related discussion somewhere?

.....What?

I've never heard of beating just the Jarl down to take over the fort. Are you sure this isn't a mod?

What I said was "you can take over a hold by beating its jarl", not fort.

I was asking how to take over the fort after that.

It is one of the many unfinished features in the civil war quests. It was discovered and well explored years ago.

Oddly enough, I cannot find any detailed work through of it anymore. I just hope someone here still remember the solution.

Good luck finding it then, if you're as certain as you are.
