ludux Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Alright, it's been brought to my attention that you guys might want to know that even with the old Children of Cyrodiil forum down (permanently?), that work on a publicly community made Children of Skyrim mod is ongoing! Just not that one. When the original Children of Cyrodiil forum went down, I thought it'd be fixed pretty quickly. After a few days I grew concerned, and after a few weeks I almost gave up hope. And then, just for the heck of it, I made a free board to try and attract old members and keep momentum going on a mod that would allow you to play as a lore-friendly child in Skyrim. Let me present: http://skykids.freeforums.net/ Sorry it's not near as good as the old forum - I really expected them to be back up by now. But a free forum that works is infinitely better than a good forum that doesn't. So far I think most of the members of the old forum have found the place, but feel free to join up even if it's new to you! I'll give a rundown on some of the progress towards a full Community Children of Skyrim mod that's been going on. First of all, here: http://skykids.freeforums.net/index.cgi?board=skyrim&action=display&thread=37 - great work by many people, led largely by Pogost, this mod, along with it's prerequisites (clearly listed on the first page), lets you play as a child in Skyrim. But not just as some randomly created new race - even at this early stage, it allows you to play a child as any vanilla Skyrim race, be it mer, man, or beast. NSFW warning, however, as this isn't yet Nexus compatible, so none of the kids have safe for work permanent undies yet. With Luthien's Armor Swap Mod, a lot of in-game armor is automatically re-sized to fit the child body, although not all of it, as that part of the mod is still very much in alpha. Any help re-sizing clothing to fit the new mesh would be hugely appreciated. Next up we have RustyBlade's great work at http://skykids.freeforums.net/index.cgi?board=skyrim&action=display&thread=39 which does a great job of replacing every single standard ugly Bethesda potato-head kid in Skyrim with the much nicer looking versions from Pogost's work. Same NSFW warning applies - these kids now wear a much greater variety of lore-standard Skyrim clothes, but underwear seems to be a foreign concept to them. Ahem. More impressive, however, is that the clothing they do wear has been re-sized to fit them, without any, ahem, out of place lumps. Then we have the exciting Skykids - FMB (Forsworn, Mages, Bandits): http://skykids.freeforums.net/index.cgi?board=skyrim&action=display&thread=38 which adds realistic, killable, lore-friendly in-game children to various enemy spawns. Though the Forsworn, Mage, and Bandit children have a low chance of spawning, be warned - they won't go down without a fight! And it's not just Skyrim! Fallout, Oblivion, and Morrowind discussion and child mods are welcome too. As the community grows, momentum builds and we get ever closer to a real, fully fleshed out Community Children of Skyim mod, the forum still needs your help. Please spread the word to whoever you know who might be from the old boards or who might be interested, and if you have any modding talent whatsoever, please contribute what skills you can! I still hope the old board comes back and the long fabled original Children of Skyrim mod that Kiwi was leading comes out, but failing that, the community seems to be doing just fine on its own. Join up, introduce yourself, and spread the word - but most importantly, enjoy the current releases of the mods!

The underlying ethos of Lovers Lab seems to be intelligent and tolerant, provided that nobody threatens to wreck the ship by attracting the unfriendly. (Some folks, geniuses included, don't seem to realize that while there may be a time and place to make a stand, this ain't necessarily the time nor the place.) The problem, as far as it goes, is that there are a few loud members of the Lab who seem to think that any mod to do with kid shaped pixels must involve rape, enslavement, torture, mutilation, murder etc. in the same way that their favorite udder-fixated mods do. They appear to get quite riled about COC and the like. I wouldn't say they represent the majority or even a big minority, but like such people often do, they seem to make the most stink. There are thought to be a few well known psycho reasons for this. Sometimes people get a guilt/shame reaction associated with sex. (No surprise given all those hormones hitting the amygdala). Some folk seem to feel less guilty if they can point at some other "nogood shit" whose supposed sexual preferences are even less tolerated. Shucks, it's got to be easier than trying to work out why you feel so bad. In bad cases these people can end up thinking ALL sex is a sin. In really bad cases these people try to erase the supposed source of their "shame" and these days tend to end up as fodder for forensics, yellow press and fellow inmates. In the spirit of the Lab the poor people (at the safer end of the spectrum) have got as much right as anyone to peddle their pies, but, (whatever they think), I don't believe anybody has the right to just shove their meat down someone else's throat (even metaphorically speaking).

COC are profesional modder like us - They are not something to be underestimated. it's a powerful community of their own specialize child modding. The best in this planet, second to none. So do we on lovers plugins development, Official alliance is never possible.

In other words (maybe): there are people who would happily kill off COC and LL. If they can link kids and sex mods then their job is made easier. LL proactively tries to prevent that connection being made. It's not war with COC that worries LL, it's war with LEA or wannabe LEA. This doesn't mean that LL is against child mods per se, just wants to avoid becoming low-hanging fruit. Some members (who tend to stick fairly close to one particular game you might notice) are very anti anything that involves younger pixels. (I think this is because of the reasons I gave earlier). They don't represent LL however self-important they are. LL is tolerant enough to let them speak, they don't speak for LL.
