Weird control issues

So I updated skyrim to 1.7 (steam crashes on me so I had to torrent a patch and 1.7 was all they had)

 

But it switched all my custom button mapping to default, so when I went to go change it to my liking again, I get this weird issue.

 

For example I open up my item menu, though it clearly says at the bottom that E is for equip, it doesn't work... instead some other button (like R or something) is now equip. And it's like that for every other action (drop, favorite, etc.)

 

Even when I try to scroll through the menu using the arrow keys, it does some other command. Though everything works the way it should when I go back to default settings.

 

Now I know some of you think I'm probably stupid and would just tell me to go back to the default settings, but I had no issues like this before I patched the game....

 

Any suggestions?
