Simple question regarding modding (hope so)

Hey guys,

 

actually I'm just a consumer of mods.

 

However, I recognized that there's not always what I'm looking for so i tried to

create some simple mods using CreationKit just to get into modding a very little bit.

 

Talking about creating a character with just the skyrim.esm selected no problems occured.

But when I select some more plugins like ApachiiHairStyles and want to use content of it

all changes referring to this mod are gone after saving and reopening my plugin.

 

Would you mind to give me a solution in simple words?

Tricky to explain this. When you load an esp as a master file for your mod, and that mods esp has an esm master file ck will more often than not fail to save that esp as a master file and will only save the esm to the master list of your mod. So it will save correctly but when loading mod again ck does not find the references anymore so in the case of an npc it just sets everything to the default race settings. YOu can verify this happens by making edits with master esps active in ck then save and close and open your eps in tes5edit and it will show your master list missing those esps and will display all the missing references, you can then fix it through tes5edit and update the list but that doesn't guarantee ck won't screw your list up next time you open the esp with it.

If I use hair or something from another esp that has a master file I make a duplicate of the reference in my esp, and use my duplicate this way the mod still relies on the physical assets from that esp but is not going to get screwed up by ck.
