Strange sound effect during attempt to start New Game; game freezes on intro sequence

I really don't know how else to explain it -- it sounds like a video game version of a branch breaking.

 

The gag is, I can play from a save just fine. I just can't run a new game for shit.

 

Attached my plugins.txt to  show you what I'm working with -- the only addon I'm trying to use otherwise is "Start Me Up".
