Kashiwaba Tomoe Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Well my dad is computer illiterate. He can send emails, check facebook, and do a basic google search and that's about it. Well today I go over his place to help with his PC due to something happening with facebook. On his timeline were posts seemingly by him that were blatant advertisments for McDonalds and Starbucks. I checked the security settings, noone but him had logged into his FB. I also of course randomly mashed keys for a minute to reset his password. Anyone heard of this type of ad occuring on FB, or did someone just access his account thru whatever method.
Ark of Truth Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 He most likely clicked a link on a Facebook page to do with MacDonalds and Starbucks as a result it automatically created a post on this timeline, it's called clickjacking. Sometimes you click the link and it takes you to something like a porn site and then posts that you went there on your Facebook page. It happens often with Facebook as it is full of gaps and security bugs. To avoid it install No-script and Ad-block Plus. To be honest the only way it could of got there is through something he did.
Kashiwaba Tomoe Posted October 26, 2012 Author Posted October 26, 2012 Yeah what I figured, and I tried years ago to get noscript/adblock, he freaked out because it 'broke' pages. within 3 months of his refusal to use it, his PC was nearly bricked by a virus. But yeah, unless anyones heard of actual threats that matter, Im going to tell him to deal with it himself until he's willing to learn noscript/adblock.
