Fearle55 Posted August 12, 2018 Posted August 12, 2018 ====== This thread is being updated, contents will change. ====== Welcome LL Community, Short introduction: Spoiler I've been lurking around LL forums for quite some time now, and I am thankful to all modders for amazing work they do, and I really like that this work helps extend lifetime of some of my favorite games, so I can return to them from time to time. To give something back from myself to the LL modders community I decided to start this thread. Please let me explain what I mean. I am not a modder/programmer so I am not going to create here something impossible. But I would like to help bring more immersion and diversity to all Sims 4 players out there. Since I didn't see anything similar to my 'project' on LL forums yet - at least to my knowledge - I decided to give it a try, and create a Sim Repository. So what is it you ask? Did you ever go around Sims 4 webites and look for Male or Female sims becouse you got tired of seeing all the default faces over and over again? Or do you like to create movies for YouTube to immerse your vierwers? Did you almost jump out of the window when you scrolled down to the bottom of the page, only to find that your favorite sim has about a million of custom CC links? If the answer is 'yes' then this may be for you. ? My plan is to create simple thread where different M/F sims would be downloadable in relatively simple and compact manner. This would include only a few most important files. - 1st file - Sim file itself (the one that goes to Tray folder. packed in .rar to improve download times). - 2nd file - All CC that is attached to the Sim (packed in .rar to improve download times). - 3rd, A few images of the Sim, so you can decide if you like him/her or not. before download. - 4th, Possibly URL to the source, so you can check original author info, and possibly use or support his other works if you so desire. The idea is so you - end user - just paste the files into your mods folder, and have a sim that looks just like in the picture, and all the hard work - mainly manual download of CC is done for you, so you don't have to. Easy. ? If you guys like my idea, please let me know in the comments, and i will try to populate this thread with some content in the coming days. See you soon! ? ======================================== IMPORTANT STUFF: HOW TO INSTALL: Spoiler - Download & Unpack the .rar file. - Move files from *_Tray folder to *\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Tray - Move *_CC.package file to *\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods - There is a couple of images within the archive, they are there so you can easily know what is what, otherwise they're unimportant. - Start game, go to Library, tick 'Include Custom Content Button' and 'Household' buttons on the left, and check if your new sim is there. If yes - thats all, If not - check instructions again. HOW TO UNINSTALL: Spoiler - Start game, go to Library, tick 'Include Custom Content Button' and 'Household' buttons on the left, select the Sim you want to Delete, click 'Bin' icon on the lower left corner. This will remove all necessery files from 'Tray' folder. There is no need for you to remember which files belong to specific Sim. - Remove *_CC.package file from your Mods folder. *REMEMBER* - For your convinience all *_CC packages have number, so will this thread, in case you are lost, just compare numbers, and you will know what to delete. OTHER INFO / MOD CONFLICTS / USED EXPANSION PACKS: Spoiler About Conflicts: Depending on your current mod installation your experiences may vary, but i will try to point out some relevant things. Since those packages are supposed to be standalone there is no way to avoid possible conflicts or package duplicates. In that case please know that: - Having multiple identical packages should not cause problems, multiple identical packages could be considered bloat, which could increase loading times on slower computers, but it is not a rule written in stone, so most of you guys may not even notice that. - Having multiple skins installed, depending if they are 'default' or 'non-default' may impact how your sims look, or may not, you have to try them for yourself, but don't worry about that too much. In worst case scenario you may just remove conflicting sim, and use another. I will try to note, if any sims could be or are known to be problematic. - Having packages that are edits of original packages is the most important thing to avoid, becouse when an ID points to two different kinds of content (when both original and edit are in use) then strange things can happen. About Expansion Packs: Some sims may be based on content present in one or more expansions, in which case you can still use him/her but final result may NOT be the same as on the picture, again, i will try to point out when this happens. ======================================== TO CHECK SIM LOOKS, PLEASE OPEN AUTHOR PAGE AND BROWSE PICTURES THERE, THIS THREAD LIMITS AMOUNT OF ATTACHMENTS, SO IT IS POINTLESS TO CRAM IMAGES HERE. OR TO THE OUTSIDE IMAGE HOSTING SERVICES - BECOUSE I DONT WANT YOU GUYS TO BROWSE THROUGH ADS AND OTHER *BS* ? Following sims does not use additional sliders, unless specified otherwise. Your sim will be normal as he always was. ==================== It has been brought to my attention that my attempted way/form of sharing repackaged sims as presented in this thread isn't a good solution (not in long term anyway) becouse of the way that TSR and creators monetary payouts work between those two sides. I didn't look deep enough into that, and i was presented with logical arguments explaining that situation. I am not here to step anybody's toes, neither TSR nor creators. Also i don't want to bring any bad feelings on myself or LL. As a result i suspend further updates to this thread. Sorry for the false hopes up. And i kindly ask moderator to close or remove this thread on earliest convinience. Thanks!
Xenon93 Posted August 12, 2018 Posted August 12, 2018 I totally agree. Most of the sims I have are downloaded from Loverslab and other pages from outside, and its so annoying to download the CC one by one (and of course, many obsoleted mods and mods which make conflicts between them). Im not a modder but I have programmed in Java during 2 years so maybe I would colaborate all the possible, but no idea about how to applicate it it to the game (and also my little free time for it). Finally, Im working on my new building for my main sims, its like the playboy mansion (more or less) and I would like to share it with the LL community (but again, the problem said above). My biggest problem will be to mention all the owners of the mods used for it (hundreds of mods...if not, my solar will be horrible and mostly empty). People like you make this game alive and better, good job!
benshamrock7 Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 This sounds like a awesome idea and I totally support it 100%.
isonianlord Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 Sounds good to me. I hate the 10 seconds to download a Sim and the next half hour finding their CC.
erplederp Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 I think it is a great idea - hunting all the CC is often so cumbersome it is not even worth the effort for a single sim. Though one thing that might be somewhat problematic if you go for 100% match with the pictures is the way the override mods (e.g. default skins, body meshes or enhancers, unfortunately some eye colors, eyebrows and clothing pieces...) work - they are by definition mutually incompatible. I think the original creator should always be credited as you mentioned (possibly with a link too) - creating a good looking sim with matching CC takes a fair share of work after all.
Fearle55 Posted August 13, 2018 Author Posted August 13, 2018 @erplederp You are right, i will probably expand on those topics later in the main thread, but, as a good news, i have some ideas how to at least partially alleviate those problems, i will certainly do some testing on that, also many of those custom sims have a 'non-default replacement' skins on them, which means that the skin is added to the game, but will not overwrite all the sims in the game just the one it is attached to. Other thing is, if i come across a sim that is so problematic, i may just move to the next one, there are thousands quality works out there, bigger problem is how to store and distribute files to you, without running out of space ?
Fearle55 Posted August 13, 2018 Author Posted August 13, 2018 @parzysty I know what you mean, and this actually wouldn't be that hard to do, bigger problem would be to keep reliable database up-to-date.
