Sevish Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 I think there is a lot of good Unp armor, but most of it's skimpy and, lets face it, wouldn't stop a cold breeze let alone an arrow to the knee. My question is this: if I wanted to mod some of this armor and say add a simple chainmail underlay (ex: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/24065) how would I go about doing that?
shedidwhat Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 get NifScope if you don't have it already. find the nif that you want to edit and open it with NifScope will look something like this I dont have that armor installed so thats why my image is white in the bottom part of nifscope I have the chainmails texture path highlighted in blue. IF you right click on that you can choose what texture to use. to use that same chainmail texture on another body. just right click on the texture path you want to change and change its texture path ( copy and paste the texture path works too) also check out this Customising an outfit in Nifskope for beginners
Kapt Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Download Xenius' Armor Compilation, he has a chainmail body texture that you can just set whatever armor's showing skin to. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/23231 I'm starting work on some UNP mashup armors though which fit what you want, one of my WIP screens: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/images/144880
Sevish Posted October 7, 2012 Author Posted October 7, 2012 Thanks I was going to take some the breast plates from http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19772 and making some form fitting alts.
Sevish Posted October 8, 2012 Author Posted October 8, 2012 Update: Shedidwhat, I tried using your tutorial to change the texture and it shows up on the nif but not when an actor is dressed in it. Am I glossing over something I shouldn't be?
shedidwhat Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 the texture you are tring to use is it in your textures folder somewhere? upload your nif or a image of your nif so I can see the texture path
Sevish Posted October 9, 2012 Author Posted October 9, 2012 Here it is, just a test to see if it would work.
shedidwhat Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 ok replace this in the Nif's texture path c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\data\textures\armor\sleeksteel\sleeksteelmailf.dds with this textures\armor\sleeksteel\sleeksteelmailf.dds and the texture path right under ^ that one change it to a femalebody_1_msn.dds I changed them in this one
Sevish Posted October 10, 2012 Author Posted October 10, 2012 Thanks, you rock. Now to figure out how to delete portions of meshes.
shedidwhat Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 in the tree view of NifSkope (left window) right click on the NiTriShape or NiTriStrips that you want to remove go down to Block then click on Remove Branch some meshes are in parts (NiTriShapes, Strips) and can be removed but some have the whole armor as 1 NiTriShape. for that you can try editing the texture by making the unwanted part transparent or edit them in 3DsMax try this how to get a legal copy of 3D Studio Max free and how to use it here is his full video tutorial page http://www.youtube.com/user/NightasyTutorials/videos
Sevish Posted October 11, 2012 Author Posted October 11, 2012 False alarm, I haven't gotten the chain to show when actually on an actor. Also what is the purpose of the _1.nif s?
shedidwhat Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 _0.nif and _1.nif is for the body weight femalebody_0.nif lowest weight. femalebody_1.nif maximum weight if you ONLY want to use the slimmer, smaller bodies you can copy the _0.nif and rename it _1.nif
