How to safely upgrade Devious Devices?

So I accidentally installed a VERY old version of devious devices. 3.2.7 to be precise. I am halfway through my playthrough but need to upgrade to stop the plugs always falling out. Is there a safe way to do this? or is there a guide I missed? I looked and couldnt find any. help would be greatly appreciated

The DD team has said that DD4 requires a new game.

While you'll probably be able to update, you should at least clean the save with a save cleaner. But those aren't always 100%.
