As of v.0.24 this mod is being rolled into the main game, and should not be added as a mod.
I'm going to leave this up for now, just for people on an older version of the game.
 

Resistance Revamped (NO LONGER NEEDED)

I've been wanting to dig into the mechanics of the Resistance pill for a while. I think the basic idea is incredibly fun, but the specifics of how it was implemented generally feel too punishing and restrictive, without enough added excitement to make it all feel worth it. A lot of the time the Resistance pill, at least the way it is currently designed, just starts to feel like a soft bad end/game over if you aren't careful. 

After trying a couple other resistance related modlets and tweaks, I finally decided to just bite the bullet and take a couple days to see what I could throw together.

Resistance Revamped makes the following changes:

1.) If you hold out until you are "safe" to orgasm, you won't have to worry about the duration of the pill you are on being extended. (Thanks to DatDude's Resistance modlet for this idea.)


2.) The first time each day you have an "unsafe" orgasm, instead of gaining a side effect, your pill timer will be extended by one day. The first unsafe orgasm each day is the only time that your pill timer will be increased. This means that at worst you'll be keeping the remaining duration of the pill you're on from decreasing, but you'll never be gaining more time than that on top. No more feeling like you're caught in an endless cycle of orgasms that push the duration out further and further. If you make it through a day without orgasming (or only have a "safe" orgasm), you'll always make some meaningful progress toward being done.


3.) I've removed or toned down the really frustratingly punishing side effects that could make being on Resistance particularly un-fun. No more flat stat penalties that you have no way to avoid, no more global XP penalties that just slow the game down, no more infinitely scaling arousal gain that hits you every time time advances. In their place, I've added a whole lot of new potential side effects that are more fun, interesting, and enjoyable, with specific limits on how far they can scale. There's still some fun tension and risk to it all, but if you accidentally get pregnant on a Resistance, you aren't just going to wind up fucked into absolute mush by all the penalties that pile up over time.

So what are the new, potential effects of cumming while you're on Resistance?
💖 Increased Arousal. When you would otherwise have gained some arousal, you will sometimes gain a bit more than normal. (Instead of a constant build every time you do anything that causes time to pass, which is how the base game version of the resistance arousal effect works.) This resistance effect also starts out relatively small, and caps out at a reasonable breaking point. You'll definitely feel the effects if you've been hit with this one a few times, but it won't make the game unplayable.

 

🥵 Heightened Pleasure. A bit like the new Increased Arousal effect, this resistance effect causes you to sometimes gain more pleasure than you would have otherwise.

 

🍼 Frustrated Fertility. Causes your hormones to ramp up, increasing your pregnancy chance slightly when it has been more than a day or so since you had an orgasm. If you get this effect twice, your fertility will keep increasing over time. And if you get it a third time, your arousal will start increasing unexpectedly on days when you are particularly fertile.

 

💦 Ready and Wet. You always feel a little wet, and gain lubrication much more easily than normal.

 

🧠 Scattered Thoughts. Toned down version of the base game's Intellect penalty. If you have this side effect and go to sleep with high arousal too often, you'll start taking a penalty to your Intellect whenever you're highly aroused, but the rest of the time you'll be fine. As long as you can get at least three restful, low-arousal nights of sleep a week, you can avoid the penalties.

 

🍀 Flustered Feelings. Toned down version of the base game's Charm penalty. If you have this side effect and go to sleep with high arousal too often, you'll start taking a penalty to your Charm whenever you're highly aroused, but the rest of the time you'll be fine. As long as you can get at least three restful, low-arousal nights of sleep a week, you can avoid the penalties.

 

💪 Dizzying Desires. Toned down version of the base game's Fitness penalty. If you have this side effect and go to sleep with high arousal too often, you'll start taking a penalty to your Fitness whenever you're highly aroused, but the rest of the time you'll be fine. As long as you can get at least three restful, low-arousal nights of sleep a week, you can avoid the penalties.

 

💃 Aching for Attention. This resistance effect will cause you to temporarily gain the Exhibitionist side effect, with all that entails. It won't last forever, but it will last a while (roughly two weeks).


😩 Weakened Willpower. This resistance effect will cause you to temporarily gain the People Pleaser side effect. This one lasts a bit more than a week (10 days), then fades away.


😍 Submissive Impulses (rare). This resistance effect will cause you to temporarily gain the Submissive Pleasure side effect, which could be pretty perilous in combination with Resistance, for what I hope are obvious reasons. This effect has fairly low odds of coming up, and lasts roughly 7 days.


🤰 Spontaneous Ovulations (rare). This resistance effect will cause you to temporarily gain the Breeder side effect, which in turns means you're at risk of being stuck on your Resistance for months. Thankfully, this one also has relatively slim odds compared to the some of the other side effects, and it only lasts 5 days.

And that's pretty much it, at least for now! I may or may not add a few other resistance effects in the near future. (There's a "Beer Goggles" type of effect I wanted to include, which made everyone seem more and more attractive the longer you go without an orgasm, but it touched so many passages that I wouldn't have time to test it properly, at least not this weekend.) Hopefully, with a wider variety of potential complications, and none of the overly punishing quirks, Resistance should be a lot more fun to actually play through.

What's New in Version 0.9.9

Released

v. 0.9.9

- Added an option for those who want the risk of orgasms continuing to add time to your resistance pill, after the first orgasm each day. You can now choose to have resistance orgasms always increase the duration of the pill ("Every time"), sometimes increase the duration ("At random"), or never increase the duration ("Never"). For "Every time" and "At random" the first orgasm each day while you are vulnerable will still only increase the duration, while any further orgasms will still have other effects on top of increasing the duration. If you select "Never" you'll skip any duration increase entirely, and jump right to the other side effects.

I haven't had time to really fully test this change (though I think it should be fine). I left version 0.9.8 up as well, for now, just in case.

- Added a new message in the mornings if you have one of the side effects that begin affecting you after too many days without relief, and went to sleep with too much arousal and no relief the previous day. (Before, there was a message you might get after several days without relief, but I thought it might be better to have a sort of reminder for the player to keep the mechanic on their mind)

- Bugfix: Fixed a silent error that prevented the side effect descriptions from being initialized properly in some circumstances when starting a new game. (As soon as you loaded a save this fixed itself, so it slipped under the radar.)

- Changed: Updated how the number of frustrating days were being counted for Scattered Thoughts, Flustered Feelings, and Dizzying Desires. Before, I was simply checking each morning to see if you woke up with too much leftover arousal from the previous day (8+), and if you did it counted as a night without relief. Now, it also checks to see if you had at least one orgasm the previous day. If you either have a lower arousal for the night or had an orgasm the previous day, it won't add to the count of frustrating days, even if you had some other effects driving your arousal up by the time you went to sleep.
- Tested compatibility with the latest version of the game, seems to be working fine.

- Fixed: I tried to get a bit too clever with how I was inserting the list of resistance penalties into the pill status, and accidentally broke the Hot n' Ready demo. Sorry about that. Went back to a slightly more standard version of that passage that doesn't accidentally break anything. Also, remembered to check for whether the player's pill is known before displaying the list of penalties. No more free spoilers if you get spiked with a resistance and don't know what it is yet!

- Found a better method of presenting the resistance effects list in your pill status, and cleaned up the formatting.
- Adjusted how the effects list macro and resistance effects database variables were being set. The previous method ensured they were always loaded, but was also re-setting the value of both every time a passage was loaded, which might have been causing some slowdown. Now, their values are initialized once when a save game is loaded or a new game is started, and then afterward, the check that runs each passage does nothing as long as they have been set correctly. (So it should no longer risk any slowdown issues in complex scenes.)


At this point I feel like most of the bugs have been ironed out, and I'm happy with the presentation. Updates should slow down a bit, unless I decide to add some sort of new content. (Fixed a couple more things since this point, but still largely happy with where things are at.)

- Fixed: Tweaked when the message warning you that you've gone too many frustrated nights is displayed, so that it takes into account whether the next frustrating night would push you over the edge into stat penalties, or not.

- Fixed: The macro that makes the list of resistance effects was loading inconsistently. Hopefully it's a bit more dependable now.

- Fixed: Actually remembered to increment the version number in the meta file this time. Yay!
- Fixed: Resistance side effects were being added to `$resistance_effect's "side effects"` twice each time. My bad.
- Fixed: "nothing" and "extended duration" are no longer added to the resistance effects list at all.
- Added: If you mouse over your pill status while on a resistance pill, you can now see a list of your current resistance effects.
