Meet the Girls – Ynelle

Her name is Yvelle.
It always has been. Things simply became a little more complicated when another one appeared.

Yvelle was born in Jehanna on the 3rd of Sun's Dawn, 4E 174, during a night thick with thunder.
A Breton by blood, she was only three when her family moved to Markarth, leaving her with little more than scattered impressions of High Rock. Markarth became home: a city of stone, hidden passages and ancient Dwemer mysteries, where a curious and stubborn little girl quickly learned that a closed door was usually just another way of asking what might be behind it.

Her affinity for magic appeared early, particularly with shock spells. Lightning suited her almost instinctively: immediate, precise and unforgiving. Yet destruction never became her only interest. As she grew older, she became equally fascinated by what happened after something had been broken.
That curiosity eventually brought her to the College of Winterhold, where she studied Restoration and learned to mend what lightning could not.

After leaving the College, Yvelle spent a year wandering across Skyrim with no particularly heroic purpose.
She simply wanted to see it.
Mountains, forests, forgotten ruins, places that existed beyond the roads simply because nobody had bothered to tell her not to go there — she sought them all. Somewhere during those travels she also attracted the attention of the Thieves Guild.
There she learned that not every problem required lightning. She learned to move quietly, to disappear when necessary, and to rely on subtler weapons when magic would draw too many eyes. A bow and dagger became natural extensions of skills she had once developed simply by wandering where she probably should not have been.

And then, one night, Dibella came to her in a dream.
There was no thunder. No grand revelation written across the sky.
The goddess simply called her home.
Back to Markarth.
Yvelle obeyed.
When she described the dream to Hamal, the priestess recognized something in the young Breton that went beyond physical beauty. Yvelle had spent years learning how to destroy, heal, hide and survive; Dibella's calling offered her another way to use what she had become.
She was welcomed among the priestesses of the Temple.

For Yvelle, devotion to Dibella never meant treating beauty as decoration. Beauty could comfort. Desire could bring people together. Affection could heal wounds that Restoration magic could not touch. Even the body itself was nothing to conceal or apologize for.
It was simply another way in which people could speak to one another.
And for a time, her story was remarkably uncomplicated.

Then she met herself.
Not a reflection.
Not a sister.

Yvelle.

The woman had her face, her blood, her birthday and memories that matched her own with unsettling precision. Jehanna. Markarth. Lightning. Restoration. The College. The roads through Skyrim.
Until, somewhere along those roads, they didn't.
The other Yvelle remembered something she did not.
Something old.

She bore strange runes across her skin and wore her hair white. Some of her memories continued along paths Yvelle had never walked; others ended where Yvelle's own began to differ.
Neither woman could say exactly what had happened.
Perhaps more strangely, Yvelle herself had never gone anywhere.
This was still the Markarth in which she had grown up. The same Temple had received her. The same people remembered her. Nothing in her life suggested that she had crossed some invisible boundary or stepped into a world that wasn't hers.
She had simply lived her life.

And then another version of that life had appeared beside her.
Having two women answer whenever someone called "Yvelle" quickly proved impractical.
Eventually, someone changed a single letter.

Ynelle.

It began as little more than a convenient nickname, a way for friends to distinguish one familiar face from another without resorting to increasingly ridiculous explanations.
Ynelle initially insisted that it wasn't actually her name.
She was right.
But names have a habit of becoming ours when spoken often enough by people we care about. Before long, her friends were calling for Ynelle without thinking — and she was turning her head without thinking, too.
Her name is still Yvelle.
But among the strange little family that has gathered around the woman who shares her face, Ynelle has become hers alone.

Curiously, she has never shown much interest in deciding which of them is the "real" Yvelle.
She knows where she was born.
She remembers her childhood.
She knows whom she has loved, what she believes, and the choices that brought her here.
Another woman possessing many of those same memories does not make hers less real.
If anything, meeting the path she did not take has made Ynelle more certain of the one she did.

She remains devoted to Dibella, comfortable with her beauty without needing to flaunt it, and with her body without needing to hide it. Where the white-haired Yvelle seems to thrive beneath another person's gaze, Ynelle treats being seen as something quieter: an act that can carry trust, affection and intimacy without requiring shame.

They are alike in ways that can still be uncanny.
They are different in ways that matter.
And somewhere between them lies a question neither has yet been able to answer:
Was there once a moment when one life became two?
Or were there always two Yvelles — living the same life in two almost identical worlds — until something finally allowed them to meet?
Ynelle does not know.
Perhaps Dibella does.
So far, the goddess isn't telling.

"You can call me Ynelle.

Just don't mistake me for someone else."
Blood type: 0 - and yes, Yvelle has some explaining to do.
